I guess to each their own. I see Backlund as a streaky player capable of 30-40 points if he has top 6 ice time. He can be very good like he was in the second half of last season or he can be terrible like he was in the first half. Even if Janks can become a 40-50 point guy who can use his size and skill and be consistent he will be a better player. I think his upside might be even higher than that though.

I'd like to see Jankowski tried out on the right side of Johnny and Monahan in an exhibition game. Okay flame away!!!!

Backlund has been over a 0.5 point per game player for the last 4 years now. His problem has never been skill, it has been staying out of the infirmary.

It was straight up dick-ish, far worse than someone who maybe tries to hard sometimes.
Take his little tidbit he overheard with as much veracity as you feel appropriate, which is probably at a level consistent with anonymous internet poster hearsay. And then move on, instead of being an example of what is wrong with internet based conversations.
And yes, I appreciate the irony that I am bothering to reply to your post.

I didn't overhear anything, I'm not a journalist and I don't think I should be interfering with Brad's work.
We'll see if Jon is on the ice this morning.

If someone wants to see the 9:30am scrimmage this morning - when should we arrive to be able to get a seat?

I don't think I got there an hour early last year to get a seat, but it's hard to remember.

My (least) favourite suggestion made around here: "Maybe Jankowski makes Backlund expendable" Best 200 ft game of any forward on this team, can carry any winger the coach chains him to and becoming a respected name around the league as well.

I see Backlund miscast as a 2nd line center, but he can chip in. I do think he's an elite third line center however. He's not flashy, but he does so many little things right that his linemates just get boosted by not spending as much time in their own zone.
Treliving should hate him though. He boosted Bouma's numbers two years ago, and was a huge part of Colborne ripping it up at the tail end of last season.

And watch him resurrect the career of Chiasson too.

If Jankowski became a bigger Backlund I would be very happy.
No reason we can't keep both though. Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik could be an unbelievable shut down line.

All right, everybody, I'm here at Winsport, ready to take in the scrimmages! There are still plenty of seats available but I imagine that will change very soon.

while Backlund is not a "1B" centre like a Krejci, Carter, Monahan, or such, the fact is he's a 2nd line forward who plays second line centre very well. People need to remember he's never played a full season with a 60+ point winger - yes there have been stints with Iginla, Hudler, and Cammy but nothing resembling a "line". Is Backlund any worse at his role than a guy like Artem Anisimov is at his? IMO no and I would argue he is better. So for me, if Jankowski becomes a rich man's Backlund that is a damn effective player. I would of course prefer Jankowski become a 60 point 1A/1B centre himself - I have looked at Mikko Koivu as a not-outlandish target - but it's not a big deal if he falls short because Bennett and Monahan are pretty good themselves. If/When Janko pans out we will have an embarassment of riches down the middle and that is how cups are won.
