God does Hickey and Carroll look like Doughty and Hudler in those, respectively

If anything I'd say Backlund is totally underrated on this board. If Jankowski could become what Backlund is then it was indeed a great pick by Feaster and the scouting staff all those years ago.

Really? Wow

If someone told me the Flames had a 6'4" Backlund on the way I'd scream "sign me up!" and never look back.

it's so surprising what people's expectations are sometimes. not every 1st round pick is going to turn into a NHL player. Since 2012, we've picked:

Jankowski
Monahan
Bennett
Tkachuk

Out of them, if Jankowski turns into "only a Backlund", as a Flames fan....you should be ecstatic as you're over-performing the percentages. it's supposed to be likely that one of them busts.

No need to rush Janko. We did with Rico Fata and look how that turned out... 1 point in his 27 games with the Flames.

I don't think you could think of two more dissimilar situations or prospects to compare.

Yeah, you're right, management (and team stability) was a mess at the time.

A more apt comparison could be someone like Yakupov, another first-round pick in 2012. Thrust into the spotlight at age 18, he's quickly fizzled essentially out of the league. We've kept a guy like Janko seasoning for five years now, and after seeing him today, I really think he'll be a star for years to come.

I don't get a ton of time to study the prospects but there was one player today I was quite stoked about... Ok a couple, sure Tkachuk is one but you know who I was excited to be watching... EETU TUULOLA. The kid is big and has some good skill.

Wtf is going on with Gillies people?

3 pages back, Scorpion says something about Gillies being down and has another hip issue..

One person inquires.. and now nothing.

If what Scorpion is saying is true then that's a major, major disappointment for the Franchise and the fan base.

So what's the news ?

If there is actually nothing going on with him, then I respectfully request someone kick Scorpion in the balls tmrw.

I'm just saying what I heard up at Winsport. Someone told me that he'd talked to someone down by the dressing rooms (not sure if it was Jon or a coach) who had said that Gillies was feeling some pain in his hip and took the rest of his on-ice session off. I don't think it was all that serious, mainly for precautionary measures, but you never know.

FYI, I actually did already answer this question a few posts down three pages back. I gave the same answer as I'm giving you.

We'll see if Gillies is on the ice tomorrow for the scrimmage, that'll truly be the indicator.

The guy is still rehabbing from major surgery? You don't heal overnight. Not much to read into.

He lives here again so may have just been down getting in a workout. I think he'd be a good coach.
