Agreed, to the point I think the Flames actually turned it up a level after the deadline.

I agree it was overblown, but it was a trend that had us taking guys like Nemiesz.

Either way, I think most teams would see a benefit in having players that were raised around the area.

This year has been awesome.

As for Glencross, he was one of my favorite Flames for the longest time, especially when Iggy left. You could see that he was on the decline though, I'm glad that Treliving saw that both Glencross and the Flames needed to part ways.

I recall a tweet or something after the trade from a Caps beat writer quoting Glencross as saying something to the effect that the practices in Wash are fun and it's been a long time since he's enjoyed practice.

I hope he also enjoys the extra skate the scratches take.

Nobody pouted here as hard as Glencross did. And nobody in recent memory took more selfish, ill times penalties. In my opinion, he would have sunk our playoff chances when Gio went down, if he was kept around. He was the last rotten piece of the old core that needed to be trimmed away. Gio and Stajan are the only ones that seemed to buy into Hartley's plan and it shows. And most the other signifigant pieces of that rotten core, coincidentally, seem to be on non-playoff teams.

Cammalerri
Tanguay
Iginla
Phaneuf
Regher

And Jokinen and Bouwmeester, look like they will help fly the Blues, right into the side of a mountain.

Getting rid of him was the biggest addition by subtraction move the Flames have made since ditching Phaneuf.

I had no problem with Glencross while he was here. He wasn't particularly good this past year, but he certainly outplayed his contract.

I was also very much in favour of trading him and I think we got a great return, even if played lights-out in Washington. Kinda hoped he would light it up out East, as I think he could end up as an overpaid, washed up vet in Edmonton, similar to their current captain...

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the balls if he has to settle for a contract for 1mill or 2mill after telling everyone he wasn't going to take a discount this time around.

I defended Glencross, but it seems clear to me the attitude he has was not fitting within this group. Kind of how Phaneuf was a not a fit for our group.

Skilled enough to score a few goals but not smart enough to win you games.

Imagine how screwed we'd be if he signed an extension and got a raise like he wanted because he ''took a discount last time and saw what other players are getting paid around the league''. It would be a disaster.

I appreciate his taking the discount and his commitment to the community but his consistency with the team didn't warrant any more money at this age. I thought he would be doing much better in Washington, given his first few games. I'm not sure if it's an attitude issue there as well.

I think what some posters take issue with simply is that there's no point in trashing a guy after he left. I certainly was in line if you look at my posting history of criticizing Glencross when he was here, and I viewed him as a negative on the Flames as well for all the reasons already listed here. But he's gone, so what's the point of dragging this out? What if he did well, would we feel any different? At the time it was clear the right decision was made and so why belabor the point? Just makes the fanbase look a little bit petty or arrogant. You were right to correctly criticize Glencross... did you need a cookie for that prediction? Same thing with Baertschi.

Glencross fans always bring this up. I think he was paid more than he was worth for the entire duration of his last contract. He made $2.55 mil/ year and averaged 17 goals and 17 assists through the 4 years of the deal (some of it injury plagued). How much did people expect him to make? It is folklore that King took him for a horseback ride in the mountains and totally fleeced him for a hometown discount. The dollars seemed about right to me for a lower tiered winger with no leadership abilities.

Good luck in breaking the bank on your next (non-hometown discount) contract Curt (just not in Calgary)!
