I was at the Oil Kings game last night and the team played horribly but Brossoit had one of the best games I've ever seen a goalie play. The kid saved their asses many times. They should have lost by three goals instead of winning by five. You guys are going to love this kid. He has a future. He's always in the right place at the right time and made one amazing save that absolutely should have been a goal (I forget which period). The fans took up the chant of JB, JB, JB several times during the game.
The Lazar goal was amazing. That kid will be our best player next year on a team that should be better than this version of the Oil Kings is. He has world-class speed. It wouldn't surprise me to see him go high first round in 2013.

He is eligible and has a very good shot at making the team I'd say. Here's an article from February on the potential goalies that could make the team.
http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.ca/2...-2013-wjc.html
The thing I really like from my viewings of Brossoit is his composure in the net. He is just so calm and composed. Reminds me of Kipper a bit. Like last night I noticed a few of the players from Moose Jaw chirping at him and he just didn't even have a reaction to it. Morgan Reilly was chirping him quite a bit for some reason (past history? I don't know) and he just kept playing his game. No queston he got in the heads of the Moose Jaw players as he was just that good last night.

Agreed on Lazar...one thing have noticed though is that the Oil Kings shelter his minutes perhaps more than any other player in the league.
In one particular game against Kamloops, Lazar only played about six minutes in the game...the team rolled 11 forwards and he sat on the bench. He got icetime for ONE defensive zone start...and on that occasion coaching staff was giving him special instructions for something. They did not trust him against top pairings and lines and they did not trust him if the faceoff was in their own zone.
Despite this he showed incredible speed, hockey IQ and scored a disallowed goal. Has looked more impressive this year at 16 than Ryan Nugent-Hopkins did at this age.

Sportsnet put up an article recently on the Oil Kings, and there was not one single mention of Brossoit. Amazing stats for a goalie in the playoffs and not a single word....

Yes, Seth Jones is definitely the type of player that could turn around a franchise back to respectability.

This isn't exactly fair to grab one particular goalie and say he will top out as this based on the numbers. On the other side of the coin he is performing much better than Carey Price had especially in the Playoffs. Brossoit is a way different type of goalie compared to Brent Krahn. I think you are going to see the same development path that Irving went through. Goalies take time to develope to the NHL, allow the process to take place before making a comparison in numbers to Brent Krahn indicating he will be a career AHL Goalie.
Keep it up Brossoit I like what I've heard so far about this kid, and he is gonna be good.

I meant that comparison in a good way, and bonus we didnt take Brossoit in the first round. I liked Brent Krahn it was knee injuries that held him back.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but here's an article of Freeway's where he talks to Justin Goldman of The Goalie Guild about Brossoit. Goldman has very very interesting key words in this article (bolded below):
http://thehockeywriters.com/a-look-i...-goalie-guild/
Quote:
“He was one of the two hidden gems in terms of draft availability,” said Goldman. “The Flames literally got a steal with him. Coming out of juniors before the Oil Kings, he was pretty highly touted because of his combination of size and skill. While that was really raw potential, again, when you get drafted it’s such a huge confidence booster. You’re basically put on a certain path where you’re going to work ten times harder than you ever have before to turn into a pro goaltender.”
|
Quote:
Goldman singled out Brossoit and Carolina’s Matt Mahalak (drafted immediately after each other) as the two best steals in the 2011 draft in terms of teams finding hidden gems.
|
P.S. Thanks to Freeway for this article. Very insightful.

My apologies.... North East Goon, it just seems lately I've read so many negatives about how poor our prospect pool is in relation to others in the league. This may be true we might not have the best prospects in comparison but I thought it was a shot at a kid who has won the Goalie of the Week twice these playoffs and is helping his team win. For that I was defending what appears to be a good goalie and prospect thus far.

The HD actually looks decent tonight. Much better than the games at Rexall.

This was the first full period of hockey I've seen Brossoit play. Does anyone else see Kipper-like flexibility and athleticism in this kid? Some of those "splits" saves he's made just remind of Kipper, especially those highlights they showed from last game.
