Are you referring to Truth and Reconciliation Day? That's sadly not a stat. It's still "up to individual businesses" whether they want to recognize it or not.
Essentially, yes. Federally regulated employers (banks, trains, planes, etc) it's a stat, every other province it is not a required stat (most? I haven't checked all of them) so yeah, essentially up to individual businesses.

I think one province recognizes it as a stat. I'm in the "it should be a mandatory stat day" camp. That's a pretty important day to recognize.
It's expected the queue to see the Queens lying in state will be around 11 kms long and will take 30 hours from start to finish, that's not 30 hours in one place on a chair like waiting for GnR tickets, that's 30 hours shuffling slowly and continuously forward without sitting, wrist bands will be provided so people can step out of the line up to use portable toilets and buy snacks next to the queue, all of this so you can walk slowly past the coffin for around 5 or 10 seconds, maybe this is possibly the greatest most British Queue in history, insanely pointless.

It isn't insanely pointless. For millions of people this means quite a lot.

I was counting Labour Day and Truth and Reconciliation.
Maybe I'm using the wrong definition? The one I go with is: "days my kids get of school due to the holiday"
Edited to add: I think T&R day is more important than QE2's funeral.
Prince Harry doesn't get to wear his military uniform to the funeral, despite being an actual combat veteran; two tours. Apparently it's because he's no longer a "working royal" so he's just an ordinary veteran and ex-military can't wear their uniforms anymore. But a "working royal" who is a military veteran CAN wear the uniform because they retain honorary military titles.
Kind of an interesting story.
Sorry I typed a reply before thinking, that kind of day. You stated the information perfectly.
I for one as the parent of an 8yo and 10yo am glad Kenny took the centrist option, unlike BC who managed to take the worst path.
Best case, Everythings closed
Mid option, Nothing of import is closed.
Worst case, schools and other government such stuff is closed but private business goes on (also know as the #### you parents, society will show you only pain, scorn, and derision for having children, option. With only 3 weekdays notice you have a 7 hour hole is your kids schedule next week that needs to be filled while your employer expects you to be at work).

In BC most daycares are closing now because they follow what the local school districts do. Since they are private they don't have to close but most are.
Schools/daycares closing suddenly without giving everybody the day off is such a short sighted thing to do. It screws some people over so much while giving a paid day off to others. The average parents are not going to be able to secure child care especially since so many people don't get this day off. I guess at least their decision is in true spirit of the monarchy, taxes for some gifts for me!
In the past I was pretty indifferent about Canada having a constitutional monarchy but given Price Andrew is a known pedophile, the Royal Family doesn't pay taxes in the UK, King Charles won't pay the normal inheritance tax I am fully supportive of cutting ties.
I understand the Canadian tie is completely ceremonial but at a time when we are supposed to be trying to reconcile our past with a day focused on "truth and reconciliation" only two weeks later it stinks to to have a day of mourning for a ceremonial figurehead whose family has benefited from colonialism, racism and inequality.
