I would figure if Anderson decides he wants out he’d want to go to a contender closer to the deadline.
Looks like Zegras is struggling this year.

Anaheim doesn't need him at all. They are stacked with young D and need space in the lineup for them to play. A guy like Mintyukov was being scratched regularly and that's not good.
Buffalo could use Rasmus for sure but I doubt it matters because he wants to go to a winner and that is NOT Buffalo. He is going to want to go to a team that is contending now. Any speculation on Rasmus to Buffalo is way off the mark in my view.

That would be my guess to. I bet he’d rather sign with the Flames than the Sabres.

I bet he would too.
I think the best fit for Andersson, right now, would be Dallas. They have the need, the cap space, the assets, and what appears to be the early years of a contention window.
Seems like an easy match but I also think the Flames would rather extend Andersson and are in the midst of trying to convince Andersson, this is the place, for him.

Zegras has fantastic skill and creativity, but all sorts of red flags from an attitude point of veiw. And again, for a guy that is offense only, he's not good at that to make up for the red flags.
All things being equal, I would take a chance on Cozens over Zegras.

No question.
Zero interest in Zegras - he creates more problems than he fixes.

I still think the most logical place for Rasmus is Winnipeg. A stacked team that has two potential runs in them. A natural replacement in case they lose Pionk. A team that probably needs a bit of a boost to their top 4 dmen this year. And a team that has some assets that could be appealing to the Flames. The need and the timeline for the Jets lineup with what Rasmus can provide. Not sure the deal happens but it is there. The Jets are not going to find a Rasmus in free agency.
Not sure what the package would be but I would consider something like Lambert, a 2026 2nd and a protected 2026 1st for Anderson and a 2026 5th.

His contract is also troublesome. He isn't earning it at the moment and will need to be qualified or walk as a free agent. Any team team that acquires him is probably going to have to overpay him or see him leave for nothing.
If the acquisition cost was really low, I'd take a chance on him. But I wouldn't give up prime assets for him.

Agreed that the Jets are a great fit for Andersson. They’re in win now mode and need a top 4 RD.
However, Lambert is already getting playing time in the bigs and looks like he might slot into the top six next season if Ehlers walks in the summer. Since the time frame for the Jets push is this season and next, they won’t want to subtract a piece like Lambert from the NHL roster. So more likely Yager is the piece they’d be willing to move.

I don’t really like any of their pieces, but they are a natural fit for the Flames. If I was a Jets fan with a prime Connors, Scheifele, Morrisey and Hellebuyck I would be hoping they push all the chips in for the next two years. With the cap space they have to work with in the offseason, 40 million bucks for 8-10 players, I suspect Lambert does not see top six minutes anytime soon.

I don't think he wants to be in a Canadian market anyway.
So I think we're safe.

The other thing about Zegras is that I think he's got a bit of a target on his back around the league because of his mouth- he always seems to get a rough ride from other teams.
Remember that incident where he said something to a player from an opposing team in a scrum, who then went ballistic and tried to kill him? Rumour was he said something about the guy's wife, can't remember who it was....

Not sure if this is what you are thinking of, but he did a Michigan in a 5-0 game against the Coyotes and Jay Beagle went ballistic and Tory Terry had to jump in to save him and got hit eyes punched shut.
Maybe he said something in that scrum too.

You know what, it WAS Stecher. Rumor was that Zegras said something about Stecher’s recently deceased father. Both parties denied it the next day of course, but the lip-readers were out in full force, and claimed that Zegras was saying, “you’re father is watching”, while pointing up. Stecher went nuts.

I thought for sure he was Spengler Cup bound after that last season with the Flames. Have to respect his resilience.
I know it's not his fault, and he seems like a great guy who hard, but I've begun to associate with bad decisions by the Flames. Particularly their insistence on pairing Jankowski and Bennett together.
