Mainly the Cozens discussion, I'm not as hot on him as some. I know it's not an actual substantial rumour, but I'd prefer a prospect in general over a Cozens type player in any potential Andersson trade.

It’s not the #1 stat but it’s used in basketball as well. It’s not perfect but it also tells a story especially for a C.
6.25M for 6 goals and sliding fast is pretty bad.

Yeah I doubt we trade our #1 asset for a cap dump. We likely have to take some salary back for compliance reasons.
A 1st and top prospect is the starting point for him. If Hamonic can fetch a 1st and 2nds we can probably top that. I’d even do a top prospect and 2nds depending on the prospect.

Sure but just a few moments ago you were saying the Flames should trade for Zegras. He’s no more/less a prospect than Cozens is.
Personally, I think Cozens is a more realistic trade target than Zegras.

Yeah, I'll second that. How is Zegras any different than going after Cozens? I wouldn't consider Zegras anymore a prospect than Cozens. Zegras is a reclamation project that will likely come with a substantial price to acquire.

The difference for me is that Cozens is being discussed in a potential return for Andersson who I view as the top asset we're looking to sell (I'd prefer a player like Benson or Helenius in return). I would only take on Zegras if we could buy low on him, like the Kakko to Seattle trade for example.

Well, that makes a little more sense but if I were in Conroy’s shoes I would loathe to give up draft capital for a player who from numerous accounts sounds like he wants to be in the States.
Also, if there is a trade to be made between Buffalo and Calgary involving Andersson and Cozens, I would be surprised if it were one for one.

All kinds of speculation that Zegras is a personality who wants to be in an American market. He may come here, because it would likely be better than the one he’s currently in, but he seems like a major flight risk to me. That, or you’re paying through the nose to keep him here and engaged. Big no thanks in my eyes.

I have never heard Zegras wants to only play in the US myself but I think people would assume so. I think if Conroy inquires about him you have to get permission to talk to his agent before any deal is made. His attitude comes off as very confident and cocky, I'm not sure that's a bad trait in a highly skilled player. I have always thought Zegras has #1 C talent in spades. I think he will pop once he gets out of Anaheim. So it comes down to what it would take to sign him long term and what the acquisition cost is. As for playing in Canada none of us actually know, maybe he would love being in a hockey crazed Canadian market. Some ego guys love that.

That’s one angle.
The other is that Zegras kinda sucks… and Cozens is a capable centre…

Rightly or wrongly, whenever Zegras is brought up on Flames talk, Steinberg quick to pour cold water on it. I also think CJ has said previously that the feeling around Zegras is he wants to play in a major market, specifically in the States.
Who knows though. Things/persepectives change.
….with the way things are working out, I wonder if the Rangers could be a landing spot for Zegras.

All the time. Dubois wanted to be in LA and that worked out horribly for him. he seems happier (and more productive) in Washington.

The bottom line is that the Flames are married to Huberdeau for the foreseeable future, and there is no one on the roster that can handle his passes. The team is built off of hard working grinders, with skill. Coronato has an amazing shot, but even he is not the guy to instinctually go to where the puck is going to be.
If Zegras is a guy that can do that, you go get Zegras, worts be damned.

Probably not a great idea to tie yourself to a player who has big worts to his game so he can handle Huberdeau passes.
Huberdeau is likely to transition into a complimentary piece anyways a PP specialist hopefully like a Stamkos and you can feed him easy matchups 5 on 5. He still has the ability to move unlike Stamkos.

We're married to Huberdeau but we shouldn't be building a team around him.
Hes an expensive complimentary middle 6 winger at this point.
It's nice to see that he's reinvented himself a bit.
If he can be a +25g/+50pt player that plays PK and is decent defensivel, that will make the situation manageable going forward.

Cozens and Zegras are interesting to compare because I view them of being somewhat opposite:
Cozens has the physical attributes (skating, size) but what likely holds him back is lack of elite hockey sense. By all accounts he has a great attitude.
Zegras has fantastic skill and creativity, but all sorts of red flags from an attitude point of veiw. And again, for a guy that is offense only, he's not good at that to make up for the red flags.
All things being equal, I would take a chance on Cozens over Zegras.

I’m sure if you paid a premium he’d probably go anywhere. He’s still at the start of his career.

I don’t know if he reinvented himself. He is just doing what he was in Florida playing the PK and getting minutes.
For whatever reason when he got here Sutter decided he was going to slash his playing time and playing the PK.
He mentioned it a bunch of times that playing the PK was a huge reason for his 115 point season.

I think we should stay far away from Zegras, I think he might just be a bad dude and poison to a locker room.

Which team needs a player like anderson more? I thought buffalo had a lot of higher end defensemen. Dahlin, Power ect. Seems like Anahiem would be more in need. They just brought in Trouba though.
I would figure if Anderson decides he wants out he’d want to go to a contender closer to the deadline.
Looks like Zegras is struggling this year.

He seems to be gelling with Kadri and Pospisil. Which is good. He seems to be way more effective when he’s playing physical. Which he’s been doing a lot more of lately.
