With the Andersson trade I think the Oilers may have to deal him this summer.
Wait until his final season and they'll get the rental options taken off the board, the agent picking his team, and the package reduced.
Seems like that's the new NHL ... rental trades don't happen. It's destination deals.
This summer is Edmonton's last chance to trade him with term and let the new team work it out.

Does ANY team get as many cheesy calls as the Greasers? Last nights game vs. WSH was an abomination of awful reffing. And…Liney-ing. Raisaitl gets more grace on F/Os than anyone else, anywhen. Oof.

every other transaction has been pure perfection:
1. Bowman’s good moves? Trading for Vasily Podkolzin and Ty Emberson to help mend the colossal Holland/Jackson screw-up on Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg; signing free agent centre Curtis Lazar; trading for promising attacker Ike Howard; signing excellent young free agent prospects Quinn Hutson, Viljami Marjala, Josh Samanski, and Damon Carfagna; claiming Kasperi Kapanen, Max Jones and Regula on waivers; signing Jack Roslovic; moving out Stu Skinner and Brett Kulak for Tristan Jarry; trading for Connor Ingram; re-signing Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid; trading a first round pick to bring in Jake Walman; moving out Cody Ceci to get more cap space.
although as always our man seems a bit confused. Max Jones wasn't a waiver claim- he came along with Frederic for a collection of picks (including a 2nd) and prospects. the oilers did put him on waivers though
|
Max Jones?!
And Regula, the defenseman that didn't they recently play on forward for a game or two?
My god that guy.

I just don't see the Oilers moving him unless he tells them straight up at some point he's not returning when the two year deal expires. They were willing to wait this season to the last minute. He's worth more to the Oilers than any other organization as without him the golden goose is gone and it will be hard selling their overpriced seats, beer, and food. The reality is they are a few years away from the walls crashing in with all their key players in their 30's and the down cycle will hit that market hard. Their prospect base is so barren that it's going to require likely a scorched earth rebuild.

He would have to publicly demand a trade. Anything less and the fans burn Rogers to the ground.

After the burning, oilers fans would simply assume that rexall was moved downtown. They would be unable to tell the difference!

It will depend on what happens in the playoffs, assuming the Oilers make it. Currently 5 points up on LA and 7 on Seattle, but both teams have 3 games in-hand.
They seem like an easy 1st round exit. Then McDavid can say the team regressed, he gave it his best shot and gave the team a chance, management failed. The best for him and the team is to move on so they can maximize his return and begin the next chapter (ie. basement dwelling for years). Oilers can retain salary so McDavid at $6.25/year for 2 years means any team he wants to go to will be able to fit his cap in, without ruining their cap structure. The Avs could add McDavid next year. This has been McDavid's plan and allows him to handpick any team he wants to maximize his Cup chances

Oh look, another Greasepig troll. Squeak out 1 win and they come out of the woodwork.

Yep, it isn't guaranteed that the Oilers make the playoffs. They have the 9th hardest strength of schedule left, and are really only beating teams who are out of the playoffs, or tired teams on back2backs (and 3 in 4!).
Anaheim is rolling right now (6 straight wins) and they have the NHL's easiest schedule left. 3 points back, 2 games in hand.
Utah is also rolling with 5 straight wins and 8-1-1 in their last 10, and have the 𝟸̶𝟷̶𝚜̶𝚝̶ 12th easiest schedule left. 2 points back, 2 games in hand.
SJ is doing well - 6-4-1 in their last 10, 1 game winning streak. They have the 𝟹̶𝟷̶𝚜̶𝚝̶ 2nd easiest strength of schedule left though! 5 points back, but have 3 games in hand.
LA is 'so-so' - 2 wins in a row, but 4-2-4 in their last 10 (hopefully they are turning a corner now). However, they have the 𝟸̶𝟿̶𝚝̶𝚑̶ 4th easiest schedule left. 5 points back, 3 games in hand.
With the Oilers' abysmal record against good teams, and everyone else having games in hand + a much easier schedule, the Oilers are in a fight to be sure. Would be hilarious if they miss after McDavid re-signs!

may just be my reading and I know this is what you mean anyhow, but really isn't it SJ with the 2nd easiest, LA 4th easiest etc

Even if they make the playoff, I want them to be second WC and face the Avs, and be a waste of 8 days.

It’s hard to beat them as Rogers and therefore the league’s little darlings will get every questionable call.
Face offs, dives, too many players. And a new one that I noticed was Hyman with the feet in the crease earlier than the puck.

They won’t trade McDavid, even if he asks for a trade. They’ll hang onto him to the very last second like they’re holding on to him for an airport selfie.

Gifted with a whole pile of undeserved PPs, the fabulous Greasepigs managed to beat the (checks notes) now 19th team in the league. That is certainly something to celebrate....kinda like getting a hemorrhoid.

i think it would actually be a waste of 6 days.... the league will call the series after the av's obliterate them in the first 3 games... just to save the oilers the embarrassment (like it's not bad enough already being associated in any way with that franchise! ha!)
