Well...I (hopefully) dont think I could pass for a woman from Pittsburgh. Philly? Maybe. Jersey? Certainly! But Pittsburgh? I dunno...also my employable skills are almost exclusively non-transferable.

Either way, like it or not I was born here, so I've kind of bought this ticket so it looks like I'm going to have to take this ride.

We'll have to buckle up together. You've got your fascist and we may well have ours.

It’s extraordinary. The GOP are like shrug he’s our king what do you want?? The Dems are rudderless. The most pushback I’ve seen is from the park rangers:

Elon Musk, who is heading Donald Trump’s efforts to shrink the federal government, has said they are working to shut down the foreign aid agency USAid, in a social media discussion on X early on Monday.

The conversation, which included former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Republican senator Joni Ernst and Mike Lee, began with Musk saying they were working to shut down the United States Agency for International Development (USAid).

The ship has sailed on global trade and going isolationist is just a bad idea.

Trump is like a GM trying to rebuild a last place team. He's trying to undo all the bad deals where American got 'ripped' off. But it's not sports, alot of those deals, yeah on paper look like losses, but American was about nation building, spreading wealth and democracy around the world so it wasn't all about dollars and cents. That's over now.

Could it be good for American's bottom line? Perhaps. But their reputation around the world is sunk. Will China be the new global philanthropist? it's an opportunity but they're quite insular.

This is the path this party campaigned on and will act upon. What do the Democrats do? Kinda just sit there and hope it doesn't work?

Because they inexplicably love him?

Its a strange road America is going down these days. There seems to be this compelling idea that Governments need to be run more like businesses, and in a way one could make a case that less Government waste would be ideal.

But I dont think people who advocate for that have ever worked for a large Corporation.

Furthermore, Governments absolutely should NOT be run like businesses, the goals of each type of organization are inherently divergent, where businesses focus on profit for shareholders Governments should be focused on people.

And finally...if, for whatever reason, we concede that Governments should be run like Corporations...why on Earth would anyone pick Trump and Musk?? Did the Snake-Oil Salesman roll into town?

Has this been talked about yet? It's hard to believe this is happening. There has to be a revolution soon no? Apparently it applies to all federal agencies.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...nth-rcna190189

From the article:

This week, the Defense Intelligence Agency ordered a pause of all activities and events related to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Black History Month, Juneteenth, LGBTQ Pride Month, Holocaust Remembrance Day and other "special observances" to comply with President Donald Trump's executive order, according to a memo obtained by NBC News.

The memo listed 11 observances that are now banned. It also said that all affinity groups and "employee networking groups" are immediately on pause.

The directive comes as the Trump administration has made it a top priority to go after any programs perceived to be related to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal government.

It's a coordinated effort on both sides to collectively push the USA further to the right and more isolationist.

Democrats ALSO want USA to be less world police and more isolationist.

Pretty sure he campaigned on lower prices and lower inflation...and that was the #1 reason people voted for him according to exit polls

Democrats have a plethora of issues that I can't even begin to list, starting with an absolute inability to properly get messaging across and having too many entanglements with corporations/lobbyists, and that is only scratching the very top of the surface of their problems. That said, this feels like a rough time for a 'both sides' argument.

One party is full of typical idiot politicians who cherrypick information and bend the truth to get their way, who are more often than not bumblingly ineffective and couldn't make a cohesive argument if it was scripted for them.

The other party is a criminal enterprise that's tearing down every institution it can get its hands on, making everyone in and out of this country less safe, while also dehumanizing huge groups of the population it purports to serve.

Unfortunately more Americans now oppose DEI than support it. There are a number of reasons, but these particular rollbacks aren’t going to trigger significant gen pop outrage.

Quote:

A new Economist/YouGov poll found 45% in favor of ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs (DEI) in school and government with 40% opposed. There were deep gender, racial, and partisan differences. Among age groups, only the youngest one opposed ending the programs, by a narrow 39% to 37%. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found a similar 44% in favor of closing all federal government DEI offices and firing federal employees working on the issue, with 51% opposed.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/bowmanm...opular-is-dei/

I take the 51% opposition as particular to the question of firing federal employees. Could be wrong about that I suppose.

And today we hear one of Trump's nominees for a high level State Department post say, "You have to have a competent white man in charge to get anything done." Yes, folks, the white supremacist party is in charge. Good luck to my American friends.

In an effort to ensure no American will be educated beyond the intelligence of slime mould, Trump considers dismantling the Dept. of Education.

I walked by and saw one of the TV interviews Trump was doing from the oval office. Can someone explain to me why he has a replica (guessing it is a replica) of the world cup trophy behind him? I just thought that was weird.

well back to hating Tkachuk the traitor...thanks for doing F all in the finals and then taking credit for beating the Oilers when your own poor play is a major reason why they almost came back and won it
