I have a question. I'm currently running a rooted Desire HD, but I'm looking to upgrade pretty soon. I'm strongly considering a Nexus 4 or the upcoming 5. The biggest issue I have with those is my current use of Titanium Backup, which allows me to back up data from my apps to my micro SD. My previous phones had an SD slot in it as well, making it easier to transfer app data from phone to phone without a hitch.

Since the Nexus doesn't have an SD slot, is there still a way for me to restore my app data from from my current phone to a Nexus?

In the past, I've copied my titanium backup folder to my computer and then copied it back to the storage of my tablet to restore backups. I think you can do the same with a Nexus 4/5. Just download the app, move the folder onto your new phone and you should be able to restore most things.

BBM coming to Android and iOs Sept 21/22 as a free app.

The last possible software reason to hold onto BB will have then vanished, and only the requirement of a physical keyboard can be the only reason to hold onto or certainly buy a BB in 2013.

For those who had BB's over the past half decade, this will likely still be a hit. I know there are other cross platform messaging services nowadays, but if you cut your teeth on BB and BBM, the decision to ditch and go to Iphone or Android included dealing with the negative aspect of losing BBM.

Probably you still know some on BB, and defectors to other platforms aren't going to try and herd all their BBM friends/contacts to a the same particular 3rd party software solution...but with BBM coming back and familiar interface to those ex-users, and, once again allow them to get in touch with those still on a BB, it's less a 3rd party app and more an app (maybe the only one ever used on a BB) that they used before and now its simply available for their non Blackberry.

With the use of the PIN (as opposed to giving out your email or phone number) this could bring back people to BBM who used it before and will pick up where they left off, have missed it to varying to degrees, as well as attract new users as being more convenient than text/email.

Honestly didn't even think BBM was an actual reason for people to hold onto their BBs at this point.

I way prefer a physical keyboard for typing out emails. That's the only reason I have a BB versus my S2 for personal use.

Basically it lets you access your phones texting ability thru your browser anywhere in the world so long as your phone is somewhere connected to the network. Awesome stuff.

I had heard so many good things about Mighty Text but never remembered to actually set it up.

Took me less than 2 minutes from reading your post to have it fully setup on phone and browser, so anyone who was in the same boat as me, don't wait. I was still a bit luke warm about actually using it on the PC, until I realized it had a chrome extension.

Just a brutal app. With Facebook Messenger you can create a list of favorites.
I'm pretty pissed they did away with Google Talk.... wake up Google!

Quick Office is now free from google for android and ios. Come with and extra 10GB of Drive space.

I'm sure this has come up in this thread before; but any recommendations for a "find my phone" app?

I started with Life 365 which works well, and is even cross platform between iOS and Android, but uses way too much battery.

I then setup Android Device Manager, but discovered it will only find my son's phone if he is using it. Part of the idea is to see if he is going to and from school on time.

Lookout is both a security app and has a built in locator. Also beams location just before battery dies

Android Device Manager should work, I think you just need to set the location services to be on at the appropriate times. If he is using some sort of battery management app, it might be turning it off automatically.

I would love something that is fully cross platform between iOS and Android though. Does Lookout work on both?

edit: just tested with my phone, and I haven't touched it since about 10pm last night. Shows up at my house with last checkin time 6:18am (right now)

^^ That was with Android Device Manager, Rathji? I guess I will have another look at his phone tonight then. I actually couldn't find the app on his phone, but my reading told me it gets installed automatically.

Any recommendations for a volume management app? I am looking for something that will silence my phone overnight and let me silence the phone using a widget for a specified amount of time. I have been using "Shush!" for a while, which asks me how long I would like the phone silenced for when I turn it all the way down, but it doesn't have the option to mute things overnight.

^^ lookout also takes a picture of the person who fails the lock screen security code/pattern/whatever three times

I use sound manager to keep notifications to silent from 1130 to 730. You can set the volume for any period of time

Yes, and I am sure it does get installed automatically.

There's an iMessage app out for Android, but it seems kind of sketchy, probably best to avoid it.
