It does? I figured it meant they replaced him with DK and his 2000s era WR attitude can go kick rocks in Texas.

if the plan were to bottom out, they'd have to trade TJ Watt. Also, trading for Metcalf would have made zero sense.
sadly, they are just shuffling deck chairs. Rodgers for Wilson, Metcalf for Pickens. The result will be the same.

I think they might finally deliver on the high draft pick season that I have expected for the last 3 or 4 years.

Feels like this would get more play here than the Pope thread

I disagree. DK is still only 27 and good for a young QB to work with and for as good as Watt is, he won't be able to stop the inevitable.
Rodgers posturing so he can skip camp, likely and Will Howard/Mason Rudolph until that point?
I'm not sure the Steelers will be able to keep their offense on the field long enough for the defense to catch their breath.

people have been saying this for how many years now? Tomlin got to 8-8 with Duck freaking Hodges under center. For all his flaws, he's taken sub-par offenses to a playoff berth (or close to it) for a long time now. The defense is that good. He'll probably go 9-8 with Mason Rudolph too ... heck, I don't think it makes a difference if it's Rodgers or Rudolph.
Now if you trade Watt and Minkah, it's a different story. They'd still have good pieces at all three levels, but they probably couldn't steal games for them anymore.

Tomlin's biggest flaw, odd as it sounds to say, is that he is too good a coach to suck without a truly atrocious roster. If you gave him that 0-16 Browns roster he probably coaxes a 4-12 out of them. Which is why they should still be looking to trade him if they wanna bottom out, but Steelers organizational pride is ridiculous and they'd rather be in 9-8 purgatory than be truly awful and get the QB they desperately need.

Sad end for the guy, there's an alternate reality where he doesn't suffer that knee injury in 2016 and maybe wins MVP and then who knows?

easy to forget how good he was in his first few years ... damn shame that injuries have derailed his career like that. Deserved better.

He has elite arm talent and his career would have been different had a better organization drafted him. He had to overcome some historically bad defenses in Oakland/LV and a new offensive scheme every year or two, not to mention all of Mark Davis’s terrible hires. He’s was taking a beating behind that Saints OL. Not surprised he retired early as he’s a family guy and deeply religious and will probably follow that path.

Yeah, surprising news. I knew he was basically done in NOLA for good, and wouldn't play this year, but I didn't think he was done done. He's suffered some bad injuries the past couple years. Already has generational wealth, time to enjoy life with his family.
He still gets to keep his $10 million roster bonus, but Saints don't owe his $30 million salary for this year anymore.

Still accelerates his cap hit I think, which is the last thing that franchise needs.

Eh they need an albatross like that to force them to rebuild, they never fully commit to it like they need to. Let em bottom out for 2 years with Shough/Rattler (he'll be off the books by then), I want Arch Manning in 2027. It's the only way it's gonna happen.
EDIT: Saints save only $1.255M on the cap this year, but will save almost $30M in 2026, from the retirement.

He's either going to work out or they will finally have to rebuild so Saints fans can't lose with either outcome.

Cowboys @ Eagles to kickoff the season. The NFL trolling Jerry by forcing him to watch the Eagles raise their banner is great stuff.
