Closer to Ottawa for 10th and a 3.5% chance at Bedard than to a playoff spot and 3.5% chance of 4+ wins.

Need to out-tank Ottawa, Washington, Florida, and the Isles. Would be great to get down with St. Louis/Montreal/Philly but I think even if they tried they wouldn’t get there. Not catching Vancouver no matter what either I think.

Need to get down to the bottom eleven though. 22 games left, as long as they keep it below 80 points I think they’ve got a shot at getting there. Go 5-13-2 or something like that.

Yeah what I find funny about thread like this is we all know the Flames luck. Great season last year, two best players walk, goaltending tanks the whole season this year.

Does anyone ever think this franchise would have the luck to win the lottery even if we were in the running and get a franchise player like Bedard? No chance. We sell off hard enough to get there and we will be drafting good not great players for three or four years.

I hope that it’s the case. Montreal is a historic team with great fans. Would be really nice if they had a franchise player once again.

If he did go to a Canadian team, Montreal would be my second choice (Ottawa first)

Out east, not Toronto. Hell I’d rather him go to Montreal than all the western conference choices.

My hope is he lands in Philly, Columbus my second choice.

Wasn’t the lottery changed awhile back so that any of the teams missing the playoffs can get the 1st overall pick.

No you can only move up max of 10 or 11 spots now I think

Teams to out tank: Washington, Florida, Ottawa, Detroit, Isles

Teams threatening to out tank the Flames: Nashville, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Mulletville

Last night Ottawa destroyed Detroit. Would have been nice to have a three point game.

Tonight it’s DET vs OTT again, FLA takes on Tampa, Buffalo takes on CBJ, Isles vs Wild, and NSH vs PIT. Definitely could make up some ground on these teams today, and even with a win can probably keep pace.

Are we actually tanking or we are just not a good team.

Only teams that look to be actively fielding a trash roster would be Arizona, Anaheim and Chicago.

St Louis has clearly joined the list.

Amazing how a team that won a cup in last few years can dump players who were key members of bringing a cup to St Louis.

We can't part ways with guys like Backlund. Good player but is he really an all time great like Iginla?

Would be nice to make a trade with another team fighting for one of the wildcard spots in the east and try to pry their 1st round pick so that we have some extra lottery odds. Not that I expect that to happen and I'm sure lottery protection is attached to any team's 1st where that team is potentially missing the playoffs this season.

Top 15 picks in this draft are more like top 5-10 other years though, so here's hoping. I mean if Tanner "freaking" Jeannot can get you 5 draft picks and a solid prospect surely to F we have something of equal or greater value.

Even a few extra top 60 picks would be really nice to have heading into the draft. This is a year to load up if you can, last time the draft was this deep was 2015 and we came out of it with Kylington and Andersson both in the 2nd round, and would of had our choice of Kyle Connor, Barzal, Chabot, Konecny, Aho, or others with our middling 1st rounder if we kept it.

holy cow, there's a real shot to get within Bedard striking distance (with terrible odds, mind you)

WSH, DET, FLA, NSH with 64 points

18th now, just need to drop to 22nd/23rd

Flames would be a good team with average goaltending, its pretty obvious

I just checked the league standings and I guess I didn't realize how close the Flames are to possibly getting the 10th pick. If they lose to the Bruins and Leafs in regulation I would expect at least three teams to pass them by the weekend as the Flames will lose (win in regards to the tank) most tiebreakers in the standings because of the lack of wins as all the teams below them have more wins. Getting the 10th pick would take a bit of the sting off this season.

I think we all know the Flames are perpetually in that "sort of" competitive mushy middle. We make the playoffs every couple years but when we miss we end up with middle road 1st rounders. We are not designed to ever "tank" which is both frustrating and somewhat admirable I guess.

I ran the simulator 12 times yesterday.
We won on the 12th time...
(Yes, it only got us 4th, but still...).
