The one point of optimism I can get behind is that he's young enough where he's just coming to his prime 'defenseman years' and I hope to God that he isn't as lumbery as I remember him to be.

That is the risk!
Guys at this age can pop.
He is just entering his prime years.
He is not going to win the Norris trophy. Yet if he can improve a little as a shutdown dman it could go a long way. Guy could be a beast!
He is massive. He hits like a tonne. We need that on this team. We really do!
Yet if he does not improve he is Michael Stone.
I like Stone! At just over a million a year.
I like the player, scared of the contract though.
Think we are going to be paying top four price for bottom six performance.
I want to be wrong.

I don’t think that Zadorov hits like a ton. He’s a physical dman, but teams are not afraid to play against him.

He hits very hard.
Many top forwards will be more than very aware when he is on the ice.
My opinion, based on watching him a lot.
He provides an element that has been sorely missed.

He was 4th in hits among defenseman last year with 190, in 55 GP... that's almost 4 hits each game! He is the sole reason that a lot of forwards prefer to dump the puck into his partner's corner. Teams are definitely aware of when he's on the ice.

I’d rather play on his side than play against him.
He’ll help with the mean.

He sure had Tkachuk playing timid after hammering him in the Colorado series.

If the arbitration filing deadline was 5pm ET, I wonder when we'll hear who filed?
Zadorov is really the only arb-eligible player on the Flames have who might get a bigger award from the arbitrator.

EDIT: Just like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it will change.

I just had a look at his signing thread ... sure seemed like most were pretty happy the day he signed it.

Or Johnny when he destroyed him last season in the game Lucic punched him in the face.

We still have until the arbitration hearing to sign him correct? Still a shot at a long term deal?

I believe we have until the actual ruling.

There is a difference between hitting hard and hitting. He’s also extremely easy to skate around. There is a reason why neither Chicago nor Seattle wanted him, as his analytics are very poor.
As I said he quite physical as he’s often defending .

That was one of the small changes in the new CBA.
From the MOU:
Quote:
A Salary Arbitration matter may not be settled after the hearing has commenced.

Yep, and his agent said it was straight up because of the timing and they didn't have a lot of time to get a deal done before the filing deadline. Said they expect to have a deal done before a hearing.
Sounded like there's a good vibe all around.

Honestly, it's as simple as being the smart thing for a player im Zaradov's position. It would be surprising had he not filed.

Okay, let's examine his analytics.
He has great analytics defensively. He suffers from generating chances on the offensive side of the puck. He is not great at pushing the puck up the ice, I'll give you that. He also takes too many penalties, mostly for roughing/hits too high(has something to do with him being a giant). I just don't agree with your take about him being easy to skate around. He is not a bad skater, he struggles with the cycle game not with people skating around him off the rush.

If anyone holds this against the player they are nuts
He did the right thing to file if the deadline is approaching.
Not filing gives the flames all the leverage.
Hopefully he settles beforehand but its almost become taboo for RFA's to go for arbitration, when its simply a tool in their toolbox they negotiated for in the CBA and should be used if they player/agent thinks it will give them more value.

How would he compare to a Robyn Regehr? He had little offensive upside, no?
