Stupid Jets patiently building a team through the draft. Don’t they know Canadian teams are supposed to build by trading draft picks and signing over priced free agents?
8/10 fans on this board probably want the flames to do the opposite and overpay in FA for a right winger on a 6 year deal that ends in cap hell for the team. Inpatience is contagious
Th Jets naturally play a heavier game. They do not have to step up and play a different harder style in the playoffs. Over the regular season this doesn't matter much but in the playoffs the top-4 d-men for the Predators will be in a constant state of recovery. The fall off after the top-4 falls off dramatically to Emelin and Irwin and Yannick Weber is taking a longer time getting healthy.
Dumba was pretty spectacular for the Wild at the start of the series and wore down over 3-4 games.
Jets have to win one in Nashville. They get 2 chances to start the series.
The Jets win 2 in Nashville and a Nashville wins one at home in double OT.
Subban has looked pretty much like a Norris Trophy winner but the rest of the big 4 is looking pretty ordinary. While there was no over the top knock out injury type hits on them they look worn out by constantly grinding against the larger and faster than normal Jets forwards.
25 minutes a game is different in the heavy playoff games than the regular season.
I used the top gun anthem because they played that before and as players skated out. They use a diff skate out song now but I'm not sure if they just moved the top gun anthem up or scrapped it

Best part of the whole thing is that last off-season fans wanted both Chevy and Maurice fired after another year where Chevy "Did Nothing" to make them a better team.
The Following User Says Thank You to SuperMatt18 For This Useful Post:
Laine is 20 - 44 goals
Connor is 21 - 31 goals
Ehlers is 22 - 29 goals
Scheifele is 25 - 23 goals
They have Vesalainen coming in next year.
^^Me
I totally agree. Roslovic already plays, but is in some sense still a prospect because he’s not a regular yet. They also have Lemieux who will be a great player in their bottom 6 (a la Copp, Armia, etc.)
Comrie and Berdin in net, Stanley, Niku and Samberg on the blue line.
This is a team that will be a threat in the W conference for years.

Their leading scorer was a 21 year old rookie out of the NCAA that they drafted in the 6th round of 2015. 6'2 200lb Mason Appleton, right wing, right shot. Had 22 goals and 66 points.
Then there is 22 year old Petan still kicking around with 52 points in 52 games.

20 year old Spacek, who had 17 goals as a rookie.
As you mentioned, Niku on D and Lemieux up front.
Wicked young team, and lots in the pipeline.
Wow. I saw Appleton in that Sportsnet article, but they didn't even mention Spacek or Petan and I completely forgot about Petan and didn't know about Spacek.
I've loved Petan since his WJC days and I'm surprised he's 23 and still hasn't turned into a player (maybe it's just a lack of opportunity because the Jets are really deep). Might he be a player the Flames could get for cheap just because the Jets are so deep?
I'm so full of jealousy. I think the Jets' pipeline may be even deeper than the Lightning's pipeline and they still have a lot of their picks. They are missing the 1st and 4th this year, but they have all the other picks and an extra 5th. They are missing a 3rd in 2019 and a 4th in 2020.
Why can't the Flames just take a patient draft and develop approach like the Jets?

i think this approach gets really hard when you start trading away draft picks like the flames - for example in the upcoming 2018 draft they will not have a first round pick - so they have to wait for 2019 and if they draft a guy who still needs some development time then he does not make an impact until 2021 and by that point the GM that drafted him may no longer be here so it may look like the GM in question had a poor draft.
to me the jets had some luck in getting laine as he was able to play right away. in addition, with the jets likely being on a lot of teams no trade list, they become somewhat forced to grow organically and develop guys.

I mean, Laine is the clear cut 1st RD draft pick that fell to them @ #2 we cant really compare any of our drafts to that specific grab.
However, they've also has huge success later on in the draft that we just haven't seen in Calgary. Perhaps our drafting group needs a retool? I think Todd's overstayed his welcome at this point.
The 2013 draft for example as of today looks to be a complete bust outside of Sean @ #6 including 2 later 1st round pick's that have yet to have any real impact at the NHL level with only Klimchuk showing SLIGHT promise in the AHL thus far.
If fairness, the Jets have drafted in the top 15 every year but two since they moved. And they have been in the top 10 4 times.
Also Treliving has mostly traded picks for D and goalies, right? The Jets have only two D (Trouba and Morrissey) playing who they drafted. 4 if you count Enstrom, who was drafted by the previous regime way back in 2003 and Chiarot from 2009. They got Buf for a 1st and 2nd plus players. They got Myers (and a fairly useless first round pick) for Kane and Bogosian. They got Morrow for a pick. Kulikov was a UFA.
