Played the blue tees which I felt was about right. The par 4s and 5s felt comfortable length wise. The par 3s were a little long but not unbearable. Only one was 150, the others were in the 170 yard range which for me is a bit of an ask with a 5 iron. The whites just looked short.

Oh I’ve done the math, added up the costs and it’s just not with it. Would be about $300 less once gas is included but the added time is not worth it to me. Not only that getting a ride home from the Mrs and leaving the vehicle overnight out in Butte is just not practical.

Great way to end the season, the only negative was the asshat who drove into us on the first hole (!!) and then proceeded to swear at the couple we were paired with. I'm not sure how you can hit into someone on the first hole when the starter is controlling things but at least you could apologize rather than blame the guy and his wife who's cart was hit for not moving fast enough.

Choosing tee boxes was talked about a bit ago in this thread. Pace of play and personal enjoyment trump “pride” 10/10 times. Play the tees that suit your skill level. Playing the longer tees does nothing for you.
On a side not I wish there was a standard for tee box colors across golf. Like red are the shorter yardage tees at most courses but at Kananaskis they are one of the longer tees.

if there are five tee positions at a course and 1 is the shortest, I flip flop between 2 and 3 with very little noticeable difference on my score card. I find that there is maybe two holes where being slightly further back makes it hard for me to reach some landing area.
i usually just play whatever the majority of the group plays.

Hey folks. Looking for some recommendations.
My brothers stag is in Phoenix next weekend. Because of flight costs I am flying down a day early on my own (got a much cheaper flight)
I’m hoping to play on this day. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good golf course/hotel combo that’s reasonably close to the airport? I haven’t played in the area and there seems to be so many options I’m having a hard time.
Any tips/advice appreciated! I’d like to keep the hotel and green fee under $450 CDN

Where are you staying?
Papago is close to the airport. Probably top 5 for value courses in the valley.

If you're staying in the south Scottsdale area, the Phoenician is a nice warmup course. And is on the Troon card

I golfed my last round of the season yesterday. I really need to take some lessons, as I have not really improved at all……

I'm hoping to play my last round next weekend. Just found out that we are apparently going up to Edmonton for Thanksgiving. If anyone is else is in Edmonton next weekend and wants to join me for a round on Sat or Sun morning let me know.

I heard today that Serenity/Blue Devil et al are planning on staying open until November 5th! That seems exceptionally long, but I’m hoping to get out once or twice this month if that holds.

^ wow, that would be something else if it holds. I saw some overnight lows of -2 projected for next weekend. They had an hour frost delay Saturday.
Would be interesting to know how they did financially this year. Given the weather, I’d assume pretty well, but what do I know.

My course is planning to close on the 17th of October, weather permitting.
Speargrass is another course that sometimes stays open past the 17th. They have a group of approx 50 people from the community that can show up on either a Saturday or Sunday and help tarp all the greens in one day. In return the pro plies them with food and drinks afterwards.

Bad time to be coming down. We are in the middle of overseeding, and a lot of courses are closing down or already closed for three to four weeks. It's tough finding a round of golf right now. If you are intent on being close to the airport, Legacy appears to be open until the 11th. It's a nice resort course and has good accommodations. If you're open to travel a little Arizona Biltmore is open until the 25th and Talking Stick has one of their courses open until the 26th. Beyond that, you're pretty well out of luck. The Phoenician is unfortunately closed at this time.

Drove by heatherglen yesterday and was surprised to see the entire north side of the canal torn up and gone. I guess they must have finally made that rumoured deal to sell off that part and turn into an 18 hole course?

^ yeah, they shut down those holes two weeks ago or so.
i was told by a member at serenity that the money from the sale will supposedly fund the future permeant clubhouse at serenity.

I am booking a golf trip to Wisconsin in July 2022, and we're looking at the two courses at Lawsonia, and the two courses at Sand Valley, over 4 days. Anyone played any of these and have any feedback or insight?

I guess I've reached the boring, consistent, slightly better than average stage of my golf life. I just looked at my last 7 scores 87-87-88-88-86-86. I kind of miss the days of not know if I was going to flirt with breaking 80 or struggle to break 100 on any given day!
The closest I ever came to breaking 80 was having a putt for 79 I blew past the hole 14 years ago, which about the last time I played golf as regularly as I have this year. It seems like such a logarithmic amount of effort to shave strokes off as I go from mid 90s to low 90s to mid 80s and trying to go lower.

I feel you. I probably had 10 putts for 79 before I ever broke 80. The first time I broke 80 I actually shot 78.
Made a triple on 18 on Sunday to shoot 81 at Speargrass on Sunday. Clubs almost ended up in the river.

That's about where I've been for the last 5 years or so too. Which I why I decided I'm going to get a membership for the 2022 season. I know its the short game that is preventing me from shooting lower scores, and the only real way to improve that is to get the 'feel' for those shots 75 yards and in. Not going to break 80 playing 15-20 rounds a year I dont think, or at least not this guy lol.
