Although I heard this morning they were going to have an interview with Danielle Smith. I quickly changed the channel.

Even the interviews sometimes are poor.

George loves to try to make the guest chime in on whatever random idea or topic he's fixated on that day, and then if they do get into good discussion he just ends up talking over them to try and get his point across.

It was better when it was just the young guys before they brought George into host. I would much rather they brought Peter Klein back than Rusic.

I've recently found myself on the road a lot more for work these days and when the podcasts run dry, or music isn't cutting it, I tune into 960. Now, I generally don't mind Russic and Rose for their dude bro fluff. It passes the time. The Jeff Marek show is just pretentious hockey talk but he has some good guests. Logan Gordon talks to Loubo and then who knows what. But I like the way he interacts with his producers for a laugh. Again decent time filler. But Hailey Salvian might be the worst Radio host I have ever heard. There is no flow to her monologues and her interactions with her guests are some of the most cringe I've ever heard. And she has absolute pro's come on like Wyschinski, Amber, Steinberg, etc. Folks that know their way around a mic. But it's just so awful to listen to because she's so awkward. Her humour doesn't land and you can just feel the awkward laugh of the guests. So many weird pauses like she doesn't understand there's a little delay over the phone. I haven't read her print media and I'm sure she knows her stuff. But there has to be someone more suited for radio than her. So many times I turn off my radio out of awkwardness during her cringe moments on the show. There has to be something, anything, better than her for the afternoon.

I feel bad for the guy, he should have a TV gig by now.

Every once in a while, I will try tuning into the Fan, like I did this morning. Every time, it last no longer than 30 seconds. It is unlistenable.

Such a shame as it was a staple of my commute for literal decades.

I haven't even been able to listen to Fan 960 on Demand in the States.
For the past few months it has said that the station is unavailable. Might be a VPN thing. I don't see the point.

Yes, that's typically what Alexas use. As far as I can tell, 960 doesn't work on any streaming platform down here.

Make the change to the Barn Burner podcast instead. 960 is terribad now that Boomer and Pinder left.

I had a conversation once with Kelly Kirsch a few years back when I was looking to go back to school and get into broadcasting. I was stunned at how strictly they control who they hire - virtually nobody but SAIT broadcasting students.

Radio as a medium has had its clock cleaned by streaming, of course, but also by podcasts that are funny, insightful and engaging.

They should be soliciting applicants off the street - are you funny? Can you talk? About hockey, football, baseball and basketball for hours on end? Can you write? Can you sing? Can you do anything that might differentiate us or make us stand out in any way?

You could teach a halfway intelligent person everything they need to know about the operation of radio controls in a week or less.

You can’t teach someone to be interesting.

It normally does - just not for Fan 960. Other stations like 660 and 770 news work.

Agree, it's been great. Even Rob Kerr has been getting a lot of cool guests.
