Watched a couple of movies this weekend. Prey was great, we really enjoyed it! Much much better than any of the sequels and probably #2 to the original, maybe 1b. 8/10
The Immaculate Room. Tried very hard to be a psych thriller, but came up a bit empty. A seemingly perfect couple, join a psychological experiment to compete for $5 million if they can last 50 days in a sleek, white room in complete isolation. No phones, no family -- only the Voice of the Immaculate Room keeping them in check if they think of straying. 6/10
Bullet Train was fine, not really a fan of this type of action movie and the dialogue was very Tarantino and Guy Ritchie which 20 years after Pulp Fiction can be tiresome. The fight scenes were kinda boring but I also dislike John Wick. The intricate weaving together of events and fate has been done before. Visually I liked it, overall I'd give it a 6/10.
I understand the pressures in hollywood to go under the knife but anything more than very subtle work ends up making people look like aliens. It's a shame the celebrities don't seem to realize just how bad it makes them look.
been watching some old Alec Guinness comedies lately. I'm more familiar with his dramatic roles so these have been a revelation - The Man in the White Suit, Last Holiday, The Lavender Hill Mob and The Ladykillers are all hilarious. didn't realize he was so good at comedy. Ladykillers also has early roles by Herbert Lom and Peter Sellers.

The Last Duel is really good
Don’t know why it did not get more attention
Agreed. I can't remember now, didn't Ridley Scott make some comment blaming millennials for the poor box office? I recall that was the topic of conversation, not the movie.

Death on the Nile was not good. The movie itself was formula who done it stuff but it was very clear from the opening scenes that not a single moment of this film was filmed in Egypt. By far the worst CGI if have seen in a non-action film as every scene involving a pyramid, desert landscapes, the Nile, etc were so distracting for how fake they looked. The would have been better off filming this in a house and calling it something totally different and even at that it would have been mediocre.

Watched Nope last night. I liked it a lot, but at 2 hrs and 15 minutes I thought it was a bit long and seemed to drag at times. Peele probably could have cut it down to 90 minutes and I'm betting he wouldn't have lost a thing in terms of the story. I still enjoyed it though. It had a real Twilight Zone/X-Files vibe.
Great performances, effects, and sound design. And the cinematography is outstanding.

It definitely dragged out, kind of in a similar way to Last Night in Soho.
The third act in particular. Its fine to stretch certain moments out if there's a payoff of some kind, or if it effectively establishes a mood or creates tension. But the moments that were stretched out didn't add anything and just made it a slog to sit through. I really liked the first 2/3 of it though.
I'm pretty sure the chimp side story was based off the tragedy of Travis the chimp. I honestly found that to be the creepiest part because that whole real life story disturbs me.
