I'm hoping for this scenario. We could use more depth at C, and I kinda want to keep the D as is.

I don't kinda want to, I definitely want to.
This is a rock solid D core now. And last year showed us (oce again) that you can NEVER have too many Dmen in the playoffs.

Yeah right. Guys like valimaki aren't waiver exempt. Going to give him away for free via waivers when he doesn't crack the line up here?
At least 1 guy has to go before October IMO.

I do think Val needs to be moved as I don't see him passing through waivers. Other than that, I was referring to the 5 that were here last year, plus Weegar.

In fact, Valimaki is the one I would look to trade if he has any value.
Hanifin - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
Kylington - Tanev
Leave them be IMO

Well if they do move a D before training camp, Valimaki is the only one I see potentially moving because of his cap hit and his unimpressive showing in the AHL after complaining.
If he is here for training camp he has to make the top 6 or be traded/put on waivers. Can't have a 1.55M cap hit sitting as a #7/8 guy
Really hope they leave the top six as is

I agree with kyuss275. I think Valimaki will pass through waivers easily. Gilbert and Meloche are tweeners. At least two of those three will be wearing a jersey with a W to start the season.

Valimaki, Mackey, Meloche, and Gilbert all likely pass through pre-season opening waivers. I wouldn't worry about losing any of them.
Mid-season could be different though once teams start running into injuries.

Wonder if they will take the risk with Valimaki. His salary might make it tough to claim him during training camp. Isn’t Sutter known for saying you need 8-10 Dmen to win in the playoffs. They put Kylington through a couple of years ago and got away with it. The other Dmen are just depth pieces that likely wouldn’t get claimed. Maybe Mackey would get claimed but I am sure most teams have pieces like him (not even sure if he has to go through waivers yet)

I love the defensive depth, I just think we really need an offensive forward in our top 6 to make this team work. If Tre can land Kadri that solves the problem short term, if not it is a tougher situation.
