It's like saying the Flames will let LVGN take Brouwer as long as they take Bouma and Stajan in a side deal...but it has to happen now to make sense!

Just curious. Kevin wasn't really one of 'my guys', so to speak.

Would calling them the Sedin midgets be O.K.?
Oh yeah I forgot , if you feel the need to ask if somethings O.K., it isn't. So that answers that.
I'd like to know who is in charge of deciding who can be made fun of and who can't. There is 1000 pages of white trash jokes in the E=ng thread. And alot of them come from the champions of deciding what's wrong and what's right around here. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem whatsoever with people making fun of Edmontonians but what the hell?
Ya know what I think? A person should think that it is OK to make fun of people (i'm in that group) or it isn't. (And I think I actually know a guy in that group. When he goes PC on me I respect it) But I'm not gonna take someone seriously who wants to decide for me who can and who can't be made fun of or even insulted if I see them making the same kind of jokes about groups that they have decided are fair game.

My mistake then. I think both are entirely replaceable, but one is signed to a good deal for what he brings to the table.

From what I gathered last year they were working on moving up in the draft but after working out who everyone was taking it was decided that they didn't need to make the trade because the player they wanted was going to drop to them anyways.

Friedman examines unrestricted free agency for Alzner
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman had a radio hit on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Friday morning, and was asked if Alzner would make sense for the Flames in a No. 4 role.
“I think he would, but the thing is are you going to pay him like he’s a No. 4 guy,” countered Friedman. “How many guys who are free agents – and if you look at the D this year, Alzner would be near the top of the list – how many of those guys get paid like they’re a No. 4 guy. That’s the thing.”
“We both read what the analytics say on Alzner, and they’re not positive,” noted Friedman. “That doesn’t necessarily mean to me that I think he’s a bad guy to pick up. I don’t believe that at all. I just think that if you’re talking about Alzner as your No. 4 guy, what are the chances that if you have to get him in unrestricted free agency that you’re getting him to be paid like he’s a No. 4 guy. It’s going to be a big number.
“I just think the number that Alzner is going to command – are you going to be able to get him at that number and have him be listed as your No. 4 guy. That’s my question.”
Thankfully, Alzner will likely price himself out of Calgary's budget. He isn't mobile enough anymore and resorts to punting too frequently.
Also some potential great news in the piece:
“I still think Russell is going to get paid,” said Friedman. “I think it’s going to work out for Russell, and it’s probably going to work out in Edmonton. I think the Oilers are looking at this like – depending on what numbers they have to sign Draisaitl and McDavid to – I believe there is a desire to re-sign him.

Which is why Stone is fine as our number 4. Alzner is going to want to get paid as a number 2/3, Stone will be paid like a number 4, and he is very serviceable as we saw with Brodie.

I believe the idea is that Chicago would trade TVR to a different team whose 3rd-best protected d-man isn't as good as TVR and would take that d-man (plus other assets) in return. In that scenario, TVR isn't available to Vegas because he'd be protected by his new team.
If Vegas wants him, they'll take on Kruger in exchange for Chicago agreeing to not trade him elsewhere before the expansion draft.

I use the "what would my kid be taught on his first day of school" yard stick for name calling. If the feature or characteristic is on the list of things he can tease the other kids about (or likewise, if the other kids can make fun of him for it), then it's fair game. If it wouldn't be on that list, then I'd avoid it.

My thoughts here would be that every team in the league has 3 better defencemen than TVR and he still wouldn't be worth protecting.

Vegas must think there is a market for him, or at least Chicago is trying to convince them there is.

That can happen when discussing things as subjective as player value/ability.
Obviously if a deal like this were to take place, Chicago and Vegas front offices clearly put more value on TVR than you do.

Then it's an absolutely elaborate plan by Bowman and it's no surprise that McPhee is falling for it.

Yup.
I don't see a huge difference between Alzner and Stone in respect to that 4th d position.
I wonder if there's a chance Stone will wait and see what Alzer gets, then try to leverage that to get paid like a 2-3 rather than a 4?

While I think I prefer Stone to Alzner, Stone made more money ($4.0) than did Alzner ($2.8), so I am not so sure the money will be that different.
