The pathway section between Mallard Point and the Ranche is especially nasty.

Oh yeah, in my brain everything on the west side of the river is SW. That section while being bumpy is also very boring, hence the strava segment name

Can’t believe this great riding weather. Annoyed that all-weekend family commitments won’t let me ride (or workout). Sigh…

I think it's nearly time yet again for my frequent rant about riders without lights endangering people as they magically appear. Or the tailgater commuter.

November 30th and I'm riding the summer bike in, and I'll break 600km for the month on the way home. Wild.

Sweet.
Just checked and I’ll hit 620 for Nov. and that’s not even riding that often. Averaging just over 6hrs/wk on the bike. And not a single minute on the trainer. Had the studded tires on all month and definitely noticing the slower speeds.

Throw in some gym and stretching time and a solid ~10hrs weekly overall. I keep waiting for ski season to happen…

Perfect winters conditions this morning, just enough snow for grip, very few icy spots. Sadly with it warm all week the freeze thaw cycle should make for a crash or two in the coming two weeks. Time to add to the scar tissue on the hips and elbows!!!

Just bought Tour de France 2023 on Xbox, was $20 (60% off) on sale. I wish it would hook up to a smart trainer though.

Wish I could say the same, Nose creek was an icy mess. Fox hollow hill is going to be "fun" going down it this afternoon. At least the Bow river pathway was in pretty good shape.

Although the fat bike is overkill on the paths... for these freeze-thaws and random slick sections I don't mind pumping the tires up close to 20psi and riding in with a bit more comfort and grip. Even if it takes ~20% longer at least it's still a ride... and on a recovery/easy spin day no less why not?

All the top ones seem to be subscription based. I wish there was a one time purchase one that would also support high end graphics and steering. I think its dumb for the devs of the Tour de France series not to simply include trainer support.

I'd never subject anyone to my haiku (Japanese poetry) that wasn't interested, but thought I'd give this a share on the odd chance anyone interested - my book project just launched yesterday after many revisiions and resubmissions.\

Have a review by a local MTB freeriding legend/filmmaker Joey Reinhart as well for the yyc cycling connection:

Quote:
“Raised by Rocks, Moved by Mountains is a celebration of our beautiful Canadian backyard through stunning photography and elegantly written Haikus. Each eloquently written word makes you curious about what could lay ahead on the journey that we call life. A must-read for any Canadian outdoor enthusiast!”

ticks me off when a new hydraulic brake, pre-bled, sh*ts the bed and leaks on the rotor and wrecks an almost new set of pads too. Only got maybe a dozen rides out of it. Kept the prior brake had first time I've had a Shimano hydro disc brake die so fast - usually I get 5-7 year-round seasons on them for the commuter... which includes a lot of very cold temps and poor maintenance. sigh...

Looking especially nasty and cold this time next week. Other than that cool week in October'ish (-16'ish) we haven't had to deal with cold since last February. Gotta remember what to wear for riding again now that it's going below -25C.

Gotta remember how to dress for the cold again and where all that gear is. And budget time for getting dressed and undressed. Sometimes it seems that dressing is half the battle in terms of effort and time.

After a couple horribly icy days the paths down south are getting back to great winter conditions, very few slippery sections and lots of grip with recent snow.
Good luck to all on Friday, don't trust my drive train to make it in -38 and also don't think I could handle an hour regardless of how I dress.

Obviously not realistic for everyone but it is realistic for more people to be doing it
