Still far too many ninja riders out there
At least with daylight savings I'm hoping more will stop riding, but with the morning light I suspect they'll stick around a bit longer

I'm the opposite, the guys with the sun on the front of their bike are the worst, great you can see 40 feet, everyone coming the other way is blind

Fair enough and I agree.
It’s also the reason that some ninjas are seen and avoided.
It’s the oncoming mega super flashes that bother me

I can deal with bright headlights in the dark, it can be hard to find that perfect balance between brightness and the distance you can see forward. I cannot however, defend those that are flashing white on the front in the dark.

Agreed. I find about 300-400lumen works well on the paths for that. Don't need 1000+ constant/flash mode on the paths when often it's got enough street lights or other cycling traffic around.
For my bar lights once I'm on the path I try to remember to point them down so the light puddle is about 20-25' in front of me. My helmet light I now put on slow pulse mode and that's easy enough to aim at or away from people and things. Worst was accidentally cycling the headlight through the mega flash mode during snow falling. It was too intense and totally blinding.

Any recommendations for a winter bike? I have no interest in a fat bike. I plan on just sticking some studded tires on a beater. Is a certain type of bike best for winter biking, ie a hybrid, mountain bike, gravel bike etc, or does it not really matter? Thanks.

I turned my old hybrid bike into my winter ride. 35mm studded tires on it, made sure the fenders were good. I try to clean it off every now and then and give it some love, but mainly just keep the chain lubed up and relatively clean. Give it a good service at the local bike shop at the end of the season. It's worked great for me for years now.

I’ve ridden my gravel bike in the winter the past few years, before that was a cross bike.

Rolled the winter bike this morning, probably could have gotten away with the summer bike still but oh well. Added LED lights to the frame to make it a true winter ride.

I switched back to summer tires last week, and I wasn't about to waste that on a forecast of 4pm flurries!

Yup, a little slick in some spots under the snow.

Super slick, particularly in Sunnyside. And they disabled the 7th st pedestrian crossing button with no signsaying so, so I spent a few minutes waiting there before venturing onto the detour which looks like it will be there for awhile. They've put up jersey barriers, and all the road melt is seeping into the lane which is at a decent angle, so that's gonna be treacherous. Won't be using that detour.

Ah, they disabled it because of the planned pathway closure for construction that was supposed to start yesterday. Still dumb.
Sorry that my hood was super slick, we'll get on that right away and start dumping our lattes onto the streets.

Still rode the road bike with 25mm GP5000's, slow on the corners but otherwise fish creek was fine

For me, the SE corner of Fish Creek is unbearable on anything under (80psi) 28s. I really hope it is being repaved in the near future.

I live in the area and take the gravel paths 90% of the time. Feels like everything East of MacLeod is cracked every 10 ft. Too jarring for me.

I jump in at 130th, the bottom of the hill is pretty bumpy but after that I can't think of any spot that is really that bad. I am half asleep most mornings though.
