So I hope Conroy give them some chance to play NHL this season and start to make decision about them.

For me Byram brings an element we dont have right now (I think Parekh will bring it) but is on the left side (we're weak there) and has shown flashes of brilliance. He's still very young and raw and obviously anyones time in Buffalo will drop your stats significantly. I'm not as down on him as lot of people comparing him to Hamonic.
Unfortunately, given how these guys have performed in the AHL the last few years I think we're starting to know what we have:
Kuznetsov - I like his game, but he's a 6/7 top end at this point
Solovyov - More structured than Kuz and I think could be a bottom pairing D man long term
Morin - Cerebral 2way D man but needs some time in the AHL. High hopes.
Brzustewicz - See above, struggled in AHL to start but found his way slowly. Needs time.
Poirier - Very injury prone, I had high hopes for him as he looked phenomal during his rookie camps years ago. His progress has taken a nose dive though (see injuries) I don't think he's going to amount to the offensive prowess he was destined to be.
Grushnikov - No idea what Calgary saw in this guy, he struggled on the farm this year.
Hurtig - Not sure what he'll be but he's a long way from regular NHL time
Jurmo - Another meh depth defensive d-man. AHL money at this point.

Buffalo has had a few decent players that didn't play well for them. Sam Reinhart Linus Ullmark Jack Eichel. Aren't these the type of players the Flames should target?

I mean, at this point... I don't even want Byram anymore.

St Louis makes a lot more sense for Byram than the Flames

The follow up tweet from Rutherford suggests that another team could submit an offer sheet and that would take the Blues out of the mix.
Seems pretty obvious now, if the Flames want Byram they need to go that route. Adams said they'd match, but really would they?

Adams said he would match any offer sheet for Byram.

An offer sheet is a non-starter for the flames,IMO. Absolutely no way you give up the 2026 first in an offer sheet. It’s trade for Bryan or bust for me.
If there really is an offer sheet threat out there, I doubt it’s Calgary, and if buffalo is really looking for players vs futures in a trade for a tram, it makes sense to act quickly before any team forces their hand with an offer sheet and then they can’t trade him

Worth considering
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/647...ffalos-summer/
Is it offer sheet season?
The short answer: Probably not, so don’t get your hopes up. Remember, teams can float offer sheets all they want, but a player has to actually sign one. That usually doesn’t happen until they feel like they have no other choice, or at least until they’ve worked hard at finding common ground with their current team. Those dual offer sheets the Blues hit the Oilers with last summer ultimately worked, but they didn’t come until mid-August.
That said, watch the Bowen Byram situation in Buffalo, where a little-known rule could make life very difficult for the Sabres. According to the CBA, any team that matches an offer sheet can not trade that player for one full year. With Byram just two years away from UFA status, what do the Sabres do if he signs a one-year offer sheet somewhere? Kevyn Adams has already vowed to match any offer, but that would mean Byram could play out the season and then force the Sabres to do it all over again next summer, when he’d be one year away from hitting the unrestricted market at the age of 26. If Byram doesn’t want to stick around, the Sabres need to either change his mind or move him before an offer sheet lands on Adams’ desk — and that could happen at literally any moment.

And for the record, I do not want to see the Flames use their 26 1st here. I'd hate it.

Unsure if its been stated or shown, so I'll post this here too. The only way the Blues are out of the offer sheet equation is if the Flames go over the $7,020,114.00 amount.

the blues do make more sense. They already have alot of their young core setup and just need to take some more steps.

Yeah if I had to guess at this point, unless the threat of an offer sheet can swing the favor in Calgary's direction, I doubt Conroy actually uses an offer sheet and Byram is a Blue.

Agreed the Blues make sense as a team to get him but if the Flames want to be a playoff team in time for Scotia Place they will need to acquire a couple of young players that will make an immediate impact in the next 2 summers.
I don’t think Byram is the guy so happy to let the Blues get him but wouldn’t hate it if the Flames do get him (price dependent)

I'd be shocked if they used theirs.
Less shocked if they used Vegas 1st though (but disappointed)

Cant see the Flames risking a 26 1st for Bowen Byram that would be a another foul on Conroy.
If he smoked Anderssons value by keeping him and turning around and offer sheeting Byram that would be 2 significant write ups that should lead to termination.

If it's an offer sheet, it has to be their own picks though. They could trade VGK 2026 1st to Buffalo for Byram, but offer sheet would have to be our own 1st.
