I mentioned previously, I would be more than happy to take on Ceci for Matthew Savoie. Would send them back Hanley or Walker Duerr, wherever they feel they need to add the depth player.

In my view, Ceci is a number 6 type of dman, if the Oilers do trade him. Likely it has to be some sort of adder.
Flames have lots of these type of dman, not sure why they would be interested.

They would be interested for the adder and they could sell him at the deadline for another small asset (late round pick)

I don't think that Ceci is considered so bad that he would bring a player like Savoie back. More like a 2nd round pick. I doubt the Oilers would be interested in taking a contract back.

Not sure that's true, guessing other NHL teams may need to move an asset due to cap issues.
Flames might have better, offers.

You make the mistake of assuming sensible behaviour from the Oilers.
I expect they are waiting until 0:01 left until the deadline at which point they will realize the fax machine is out of paper

For some reason I think the Aho and Kotkaniemi ones were pushed to the final minute out of spite.

Teams tend to wait as long as possible to match at this time of year as it does limit what the other team can theoretically do since the offered assets are frozen and their cap situation is not concretely known.
Chances are the Blues know one way or the other what the Oilers will do. I don't think Bowman has too many ally's who will keep any calls he made confidential.

I just kind of assumed that since St. Louis tossed this grenade that will really screw the Oilers that they'd take every second of their 7 days to figure this out.

Aho’s was matched immediately. The Kotkaniemi one was full of spite from both sides though. The $20 signing bonus is still funny.

Didn't the Canes say they would match it within hours, but didn't officially do so until the last day?

Under the public eye and seven-day countdown from Tuesday to match the offer sheets, Garrioch reports interested teams have a set a high price on taking back a contract from the Oilers. He notes the price to move either Ceci's $3.25 million cap hit or Kulak's $2.75 million salary could be a first- or second-round pick as teams feel they have the Oilers front office cornered.
Do it Oilers. Trade away multiple picks to offload Kulak and/or Ceci so your bottom pairing can be trash with you still millions over the cap and roster spots to fill. Do it.
|
Flames have to be working hard to be the winner who gets a free 1st or 2nd to take on Kulak or Ceci. That is a massive score for our rebuild.

Nobody in the league is looking for the player because they think he'll make them better. It's very clearly a cap dump for an asset situation.

Agreed, Oilers need to have something to make the cap dump interesting.
My view, I would bet there are better options.
Not sure the Flames need another 6th type dman

Because if those bastards miss the playoffs an Edmonton 1st has a great chance of winning the lottery.

Ordinarily you may expect that. But firstly, there’s really a small sample size. Secondly, the Oilers really painted themselves into a corner.
I’m sure there are plenty of GMs offering terrible deals for the Oilers. They probably need all the time they can get, in order to try to get out of this jam.
