A three punch combo of Lindholm - Barzal - Backlund is great. We’ve always needed to be better down the middle. That’s the best center depth we’ve had since the cup winning team
A rebuild isn’t happening with Darryl and Edwards. Don’t fault anyone for wanting one, just would advise bracing the expectations there
|
As much as I would like for the Flames to initiate a proper rebuild (and there's no better timing for one with next year's draft), I think it's a risky move especially with the uncertain new arena situation. Who's to say that Edwards won't move the team at the first chance he gets as soon as the team is no longer valuable enough for his liking.
I wish the Flames hadn't nickled and dimed that latest arena deal. If that had been secured I'd say hell yeah, go for the full rebuild.

Are the islanders likely on his list?
Are the islanders likely to trade Brazal for a non-centre even if they decide to move him?

I mean its not like they're going to say, we're rebuilding, our team will be AHL bad for 3 years while we do this so we're charging AHL dollars for tickets.
The mandate for a club beyond doing everything they can to win a cup, is to supply good value for their dollar. and good entertainment for the dollar.
trading every good player with value for magic beans and hope and watching a subpar team stumbling around on the ice getting blown out, and people saying, well they're awful but they work hard. I could see attendance plummeting badly.

So if you're GM with an unlimited leash on what to do
Do you try to rebuild or plug the holes?
IF you rebuild you go for a team that sits in the bubble?

He's also not signed and I wonder how much he wants (versus his production to date). He'd be in a super powerful negotiating position.

Any 2023 draft pick they get will be lottery protected.

Hopefully Kane does his thing but not too quickly so things only get worse as time goes by until it's time for McAvi and Pissy to bolt.

Like was said before no problems with this. He at least told the team and is working with them to get some assets. Its the equivalent of giving your two weeks notice. Johnny just ghosted the company completely.

Johnny did worse than ghosting, he led them on until it was too late to do anything else. Trading Tkachuk at the draft and before free agency would have been by far the best timing.

I may be alone on this but I'm super stoked. Tkachuk will never have the value he has right now and he was never the guy to take us to the promise land. The only thing that bothered me about losing Johnny is it was for nothing. Those two guys just weren't going to do it for us so to the outside looking in with the points that they got this season, it looks like a huge loss for us but I think this is the best scenario for the team.

I think that will be the defining difference between BT being a good gm or a bad one.
No way would I accept lottery protection on that pick. The next team is getting an elite star at 24. We will be getting hope, dreams, likely a cap dump, maybe a solid NHL level player, and every other fan base laughing at us.
You get Tkachuk and your team still misses the playoffs AND loses the draft lottery - too bad so sad!!

"IMMINENT" trade = not so imminent.
Terrible word to use for an article btw.
Not that I want them to rush it, but just say he's going to be traded "soon"ish.

Bracing myself for Brad to blow yet another deal. No way the Flames come out of this being any better. Another sad step towards this team being totally irrelevant. Good luck selling any season tickets. I have attended Flames games since their first season here in 1980 and I think this might just be the lowest point for the franchise that I've witnessed. Late 90s were dark of course but this feels worse somehow.

Count me in as someone that is very excited by this news. Will not miss him at all.

1. Likely not due to tax
2. Definitely they would move Barzal and want to bring in Kadri so I don’t think a center needs to be the return
But a three way trade might need to be made. Or two separate deals. Value has to be ballpark close on the players though and I think Barzal thrives here

Yeah I don’t see Tkachuk saying “aahhh I don’t care anymore I’ll sign anything”…..
