I'm going to have to agree with the other posters. As far as .0 releases go, I think iOS 8 might be the most stable OS they've released. Usually the wait for the .1 update is a pretty bumpy ride.

But like I said, I'd love to see the cost breakdown after you consider the time put in for reservations and paying folks to stand in line & do pickups. How much are they paying the middlemen going into the store? $50 a phone? $20 a phone?

"Hey I'll give you $1,750 cash to go into the Apple store and get two new iPhones, you keep the change for your time"

What's the shipping cost on that? An airline ticket and you take a carryon packed with phones with you?

I'm honestly just curious about the economics of how these guys operate, and handing nearly $2k over to a pop over to a dozen or so people.
If it's anything like that youtube video that's been going around, these people are very poor. Not to mention if the mafia involvement is true, there could be more to it than just a few hundred dollars in the pocket.

Another article about the crazy pricing:

http://www.computerworld.com/article...-in-china.html

And based on the second article, all those people standing in line like that, are basically smugglers.
Ahh see, now when we're talking a "street value" of 2-3 times the price it starts to add up a bit more. I just thought the "$300-$500" a phone seemed suspiciously low for a world wide smuggling ring.

If we're looking at 100 iPhones at $860 a pop that's an $85,000 in up front cost before you've covered transportation and paying your front line folks going into the store.

At $500/phone you're turning that $85,000 into roughly $136,000, which isn't bad really, but you're still putting up a good chunk of change up front.

But at $1,500-$2,000/phone your $85,000 is turning into $235,000, which is worth risking a few runners at the mall & greasing a few palms along the way.

...wait are we still talking about a new iPhone here? Or is this a pitch to a VC?

Which is why the "$300-$500" number seemed low to me.

Mobster #1: "Hey man, I've got a great idea that'll net us like, $30,000"
Mobster #2: "Sweet! Let's hear it!"
Mobster #1: "Ok, so we take $85,000 and distribute it to 40 street people and have them camp out on the sidewalk for two days"
Mobster #2: "Dude are you nuts?! That's crazy talk."
Mobster #1: "Hear me out, I'm thinking we can clear $300 a hobo here."
Mobster #2: "..."
Mobster #1: "Look there's a bit of legwork up front, oh and one of us needs to fly to china..."

But if it's closer to $1,500-$2,000 a phone it makes a ton more sense.

So, uh.... slightly off topic here.....yeah. Off topic.

Does anyone have any idea of how to volunteer at the homeless shelter. And another off topic question, who has the best HELOC rates right now?

The iPhone 6 is not reason enough for me to upgrade from the 5s. The iPhone 6+ is glorious with it's screen but I can't get over the size of the thing.
- it doesn't fit in a pocket
- it would be hard to take to the gym
- it's ridiculous and people can see whatever your upto

The benefits are:
- you wouldn't need to take an iPad while travelling
- the screen is amazing.
- the battery life is better.

Let me know what you guys think that have one.

I thought the same thing, then i played around with a buddy at works that got it on day one. The extra size makes a HUGE difference. For me, I have big hands, and the keyboard is miles better. I ran google maps on it tonight, and it is finally the right size for NAV. The bluetooth audio seems to deliver more punch. The default volume level seems higher.

I always thought I would be adverse to the bigger phone, but I already couldn't go back.

I thought the 3GS was the most amazing thing I had ever seen, I had to have it replaced 3 times with Apple Care due to various issues though. I upgraded to the 4GS when I could, and I loved it. I started feeling a bit cramped on the 4GS after a while though. The retina screen was miles above the 3GS but I had a desire for a larger screen size. I waited for the iPhone 5 to come out and I was not impressed at all. Even iOS 7 was feeling a bit old. I made the decision to wait it out until at least the iPhone 6. An unfortunate mishap with water rendered my 4GS useless as a phone and my curiosity got the better of me. I grabbed an LG G2 phone and I've been quite happy since. The iPhone 6 is just as tall, but skinnier and with a smaller screen. The 6+ is a monster compared to my LG phone. I have to admit, the 6+ looks gorgeous. It's big, beautiful and fast....but aside from some very needed keyboard options it's still pretty much the same tired old iOS. Don't get me wrong here, I'm a hybrid user, I want Android for my phone, but Apple for my tablet. I will be day one for whatever new iPad Apple releases. If it wasn't for my 4S water mishap I would have been in line for the iPhone 6+...and I would have bent it to #### on the way home. That's just poor design, no matter how good it looks. And now they released an update that turns phones into an iPod touch? Great job Apple. Steve is screaming and clawing from his grave right now. It's not the best week for Apple. The media is getting it wrong as well. Forget Bendgate, this double whammy should be called Bendgazi and iOSGate.0.1 (cause 8 rhymes with gate)

iOS 7 was flawless on my 5S and if you had a 4 then yes iOS 7 was not flawless due to the hardware limitations as 4 and 4S users had some issues but this new OS is much buggier on the new hardware than iOS 7 was.

I think your method is the only way. Can't be easy if there's hordes of scalpers though. I tried it last night (this morning) when my dog woke me up at 3am. The site couldn't even really take it and just kept crashing.

I'm about 950th in line for my Rogers reservation and only moving up about 10 spots a day. Sure hope Rogers has another big order planned.

I have a potential buyer for my 5, which will pay for a good chunk of my upgrade price, so its a no brainer for me, even though the 5 is more or less working fine.

Hah I'm a bit behind you... spot 1191 for the 6+. I think the Flames season ticket waiting list is shorter.

Some scalpers of Iphone 6 actually lost money. From the numbers quoted in this article, some scalpers only made $100-$200 CAD per phone.

iOS 8.0.2 is out.

Apple quality control manager responsible for iOS 8.0.1 also tied to Maps app debacle

Quote:
....the manager leads a worldwide team of more than 100 people tasked with detecting and fixing iOS software prior to public release. Sources claim that Apple looks to human oversight for bug finding operations instead of automated solutions, making the team vital to the overarching development process.

........

As for the Maps debacle, sources said the manager was taken off the team following customer dissatisfaction with unreliable directions, incorrect points of interest and missing data. The launch was critical at the time as Apple had dropped Google Maps backbone for its own in-house solution. Despite the dust up, the manager in question was kept in charge iOS testing and apparently remains in that position today.

That manager is likely having a very rough week.

Reports on Twitter seem to suggest the update is fine.
