It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the movie or read the book. The show goes in its own direction. Other than the basic premise, it’s not overly faithful to either.
Yeah, echoing the common sentiment about season 3 of The Bear. For me it was all of the stress, none of the payoff, made worse by how it ended. My wife made the point that they were using flashbacks so heavily throughout this season (including the entire Tina episode), that the season felt a bit like a clip-show. And I'm not even sure that much of that additional backstory was that useful.
There were episodes (like #8) that I might have liked on their own, but were just preventing any sort of momentum. And maybe there's a bit of a point there, we can't pick things to happen when we want them to, for some things there's never a 'right time'. But it didn't make for a great viewing experience.
Ripley (Netflix) is a fascinating new take on the Tom Ripley story. It's definitely a slow burn, but it feels more like a noir than any other adaptation of the character so far.
It's also not a remake of Anthony Minghella's film, but a new reinterpretation that feels closer to Patricia Highsmith's original novel. It has some of the most stunning black and white cinematography I've seen in some time.
I'd absolutely love to see more of Andrew Scott's Ripley.

I started watching For All Mankind based on discussion in this thread. Wow, does the S2 finale go hard.
EDIT: But it's really too bad that
Spoiler!
Danny didn't die in the S3 premiere. His wholevS3 arc is a giant waste of time.
Spoiler!
I'd agree it's not a great arc but I thought the way he died was pretty brutal. I've forgotten how long he was at the Korean capsule for but it was a while, I think.

Special Ops Lioness was ok. A bit military propaganda at times and the writing/acting wasn’t exactly mind blowing but it was fine. Except Nicole Kidman. She ruined every scene she was in with her rubber expressionless face. Hollywood needs to stop casting her.
Her plastic surgery was so botched I had no idea it was her till near the end of the series.

I think there was some initial dislike of it in this thread when it was discussed, but I'm with you, I was entirely into this. I've never read the novel here so I can't say anything about what's true to form, but I enjoyed this more sociopathic, less charismatic Ripley, where him being able to bluff his way through an interview seemed much more tenuous.
The cinematography was amazing. I loved the use of repetition of shots... especially the cat.

Just finished 2 mini-series in the past week: Barbarians (II) and Your Honor. Overall I enjoyed them both, but I have to say: if you prefer ambiguous endings to shows that leave loose parts unresolved, and an overall sense you just watched a season finale with a cliffhanger, as opposed to a proper series finale, these are the shows for you...
Hate this new trend of even mini-series leaving things open in the hopes they'll get renewed (which wasn't the original point of the mini-series) to make more money.
Started watching "The Curse" last night. 1.5 episodes in and I do agree with the impressions people had when it came out - it's a very awkward show. It's good and it does such a great job of doing the uncomfortable scenes. Nathan Fielder and co. does it again (so far)!

Finished Presumed Innocent. It was very well paced, well acted and very suspenseful.
But
Spoiler!
The swerve from the ending in the book/movie was telegraphed and rather disappointing IMO. Certainly didn't have the same shock value as the first time around.
And they're making another season? I guess there are some unused characters from the book like Sandy Stern so maybe they go that direction. Turow kind of has his own little universe.
If you haven’t watched it, check out Still Standing for a fascinating look at Canadiana. Jonny Harris also stars in Murdoch Mysteries (another great Canadian show; check it out) where he’s my favourite character. Jonny is a comedian who travels to small Canadian towns that are struggling. He interviews residents, sees the sights and gets to know the town, the people their uniqueness and their struggles.
We’re in season 1 where he’s been to Coleman, Alberta, and Lytton, B.C., which was later wiped out in a wild fire. I see that in a few seasons he’ll visit Dawson City, Yukon. We were there recently and I imagine he’ll sample the famous sour-toe cocktail. (I’m one of the 115,000 club members.)
Jonny puts together a stand-up comedy show for the locals. I won’t give it away but I love how he ends each show with the same theme. Solid 9/10.

I loved Black Sails. When it was airing, nobody I knew was watching it, online or real life.

We started Presumed Innocent last night. Know nothing about book/movie. Really enjoying it
I re-watch Banshee about once a year and Black Sails a little less frequently. Banshee is one of my favourite shows, just so, so well done. The guys who made it also made 'Warrior' which is another great show.
Black Sails? I dont know...theres something about Pirates thats just inherently cool.
