I was talking cap hit and not salary.
Which is an interesting subject in itself. Hiw much value is tied to the cap hit vs the salary.
The cap hit is a hockey value where the salary is a business number.

They did not eat 2 million dollars in cap hit either, they ate about 333k in cap for last year. Each NHL season is divided into 186 days for cap purposes. The 6 million was over 186 days for Monahan. The 2 million was over about 30 days for Roslovic. Roughly 1/6 of 2 million is about 333K.

Since cap hit is prorated through the season, it comes to much the same thing. A team only has to have been operating about $400,000 under the cap for the whole season to take on a $2 million cap hit at the deadline. The opportunity cost is therefore much less than taking on the $2 million for the whole year. If a team is selling at the deadline anyway, it isn't going to need that accrued cap space for any other purpose.

Friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast says that he believes the Canes have let it be known that you can acquire the rights to Jake Guentzel for a mid round pick.
Canes are letting teams know they consider Necas a budding star and that is the kind of return they want. 1st rounder and decent prospect is not going to do it. Believe if he plays in a system that is more off the rush than Brind'amour's, he will take off.
With regards to the 11th OA pick, Friedman thinks Buffalo really wants a top 6 forward.
Friedman thinks Canucks aren't far from Zadorov's number to stay. Doesn't think it is impossible.
Canucks willing to go 7x7 with Lindholm, but Friedman is not sure that will get it done. Canucks players are campaigning Lindholm to find a way to stay.

Why wouldn't the Canes sign him? He fit in well there.
Without brindamour the Canes are a bottom 5 team.

The Sabres have gobs of forwards coming in the pipeline. It’s odd they would prioritize a top 6 forward. But they make a lot of weird decisions
I can’t see them interested in magianpane as he’s more of what they already have (undersized middle forward)

Interesting to see what happens with Necas. Carolina can say all they want about the return they want but the guy doesn't want to be there and can make a significant arbitration case. And Carolina doesn't want to pay.

So weird that the Canes are shopping Guentzel’s rights. Out of all the UFAs, he’s the one I thought most likely to re-sign with his team. If they let him walk, the Hurricanes will prove they really do march to a different drummer.
The Sabres already have lots of offensive talent in the pipeline. If they’re targeting a top-6 forward, you have to think they’re looking for jam and defensive reliability. Coleman would probably be a good fit.

I assume they don't like the term and/or dollars. Carolina is never afraid to walk away.

Yeah, it was pretty clear Carolina wanted to extend him. He has other ideas I guess. Makes you wonder what he is asking for.

A more prominent role. That's is Necas's biggest issue with Carolina, he thinks he can be a top player in the league but hadn't gotten the opportunity to show that in Carolina.

I realize the Hurricanes operate a little differently than the rest of the league but teams don't typically offer up younger players that they think are going to be budding stars especially on a team that can't make the next step because they lack elite gamebreakers. I wonder if Lindholm wishes he signed on with the Flames when they were offering him over $8 million? Maybe he just didn't want to be here anymore and won't care about the lost millions but sure looks like a guy that misplayed his hand.
