Byram reportedly wants to go somewhere where he has a shot at being the #1D. That is... not happening in Vancouver.

Are you just pulling numbers from the wrong place or are you intentionally trying to take what was a normal and fine discussion and ruin it to prove a point? I'm kind of done with responding to this one until I know where you're coming from. Not sure I want to have this conversation with someone who thinks "winning the convo" is more important than actually having it.
I pulled the numbers incorrectly my mistake I saw Petterssons assist total and thought it was points. Not intentional I don’t care about winning or losing a conversation but admittedly Pettersson being at 26pts in 30 games and not 18 is significant and that is my fault. That is some lazy analysis on my part as I try to squeeze in a post during the work day.

That’s probably correct but he doesn’t have any real control where he is moved as of yet in his career. But ya tough to establish an ability to be a #1 playing behind Makar, Dahlin and Hughes!

I would love to see him get a shot here. Kid is only 23, Stanley Cup champ with freak injury problem behind him now, offensive upside and capable of logging Pronger like minutes.

Actually 71 points.

I'd love to acquire Byram. Gives us a real good lefty offensive dman as well, which we don't really have in system.

If Pettersson is the intended trade target for Buffalo then we won't have anything worth enough. I still like to wonder if Andersson- Byram could work on some level.

Makes me think about that Canucks-Sabres deal he floated. Rutherford is not afraid to make big moves and Buffalo is desperate for a change. If Pettersson is not jiving with Tochett or Miller or both perhaps that is enough for Vancouver to move him now before the NMC kicks in next year? There were rumors a Pettersson for Necas swap was in the works last year before Petey signed his extension so it does seem like the Canucks are open to moving him.

I think Calgary would have keen interest if Pettersson was available but I don’t see them having the pieces the Canucks want as Vancouver wants to win now and Andersson/Kadri won’t move the needle I would think? Those 2 guys look like Tochett players but are older and I can’t see the Canucks wanting to move an 8 year deal in the division. Pettersson with Huberdeau would be worth trying out and I think Pettersson would flourish with a change of scenery.

The more I think about it the Buffalo deal kind of makes sense for both teams.
Omg no! Imagine having both Huberdeau and Pettersson on those deals? What a nightmare.

Would you trade Coronato for Kakko?

No. The point of acquiring Kakko is to add to the existing crop of young players. I don't think Conroy is trying to shuffle deck chairs.

It's possible he'll dip into the crop of youth for a good young center, but even then I don't think Coronato or Zary are a part of that option if there is one.

You're just not getting a guy who has been talked about as a top ten player in the league as recently as last year for that. Their draft position doesn't matter here. No team makes that deal for this unless they're desperate. That's the Dion Phaneuf deal. That's the Thornton deal.

Canucks need something to keep the roster close to even to even consider this deal. That's what Cozens and Byram are. Then they need something to make trading a current top level player worth it. That's the futures.

Again, this is a lot. This is very close to too much if it isn't already. But too much is usually the cost for this kind of player. The trade is a risk because you lose some depth. You lose some future. But you get a guy who when he is on his game is nearly unstoppable.
Calling Pettersson at top 10 player in the league is some serious homer stuff. Come on man.

Definitely not. Coronato is trending well to be a top six goal scoring winger. Kakko is not trending to be anything of value right now… there’s a chance a change of scenery will alter his trajectory but, right now, Coronato is the younger and more valuable player.

Maybe in this situation 2 wrongs make a right? Probably not and I prefer the Flames to stay on their rebuild path and not add a player that might make them a wildcard team or simply put them in cap hell
