I feel like we are judging Quark for the carpeted holosuites but I can't help but feel that those holosuites were built after the fact. ####ing spoon-heads probably had some weird thing about cold metal in their holosuites and demanded the carpet stay and be built around.
By the time the Bajorans took over, Rom was keeping those things running with toothpicks, duct tape, self-sealing stem bolts and a prayer so the work to remove the carpet was just not tenable.

Just imagining Rom squelching on that carpet over to the control panel grumbling about how he should really replace the carpet sometime...

That's a 24th century vacuum, it recreates the carpet as you go over it.

Quark would never shell out for that. Also, come to think of it, Quark would never waste money on something like replacing the carpet in one of those lol. Rom's going to be chipping stuff out of it with an old tooth grinder before that happens.

Yeah, the nice thing about 22-24 episode seasons is that you have the screen time to do both long-running arcs; and stand-alone episodes that help develop and expand characters, cultures and organizations, or provide insightful commentary like the best sci-fi stories.
I miss that from many of the modern series that now are more like 6 hour movies.

What we never realized was that every time Quark complained that 'Station Security has blocked a shipment' was that it was a 7-year-long prank by Odo to block him from ordering in new carpet.
That insidious bastard!

Cool story bro: I was doing the taxes for one of my clients today, he is an actor in Toronto and I noted to him...
"You made a lot more money this year than usual."
He tells me..."Yeah, I was in this Star Trek movie this year, it was a ton of fun, they treat you great and they pay really well but...the fans didn't really seem to like it."
No...! Tell me it wasn't! Spoiler alert: It was.
I am attempting to convince him that if he gets another Star Trek job to nab me a prop! He says he's being considered for a role in the Academy show!
"What did you think of the movie?"
Uh, ya know...lets uh...yeah, lets not talk about that shall we?

It’s okay, he charged that client triple his usual rate.

Explain with actions and start embezzling his money. It's what the Grand Magus would want.

I'd view as reparations for the suffering of watching the movie.

I'm glad they had fun and that production treats folks well!
Speaking of Alberta actors in Trek, I'm like 5 or six degrees away from Bruce Horak (Hemmer). So that's neat

I told him to kneel upon the 'Altar of Combs' and see if he could be a perpetual recurring character!

Thats the dream. But no one can touch Combs.
I have to say...I love celebrities that want to be on Star Trek just because they're fans. To me that is so cool!
In my opinion, the absolute ultimate cameo that can never be beaten is Mick Fleetwood.
"We are going to dress you up as a giant fish monster and no one will recognize you."
- But I get to be on Star Trek?
"Yes."
- Well then, what are we waiting for?
Iggy Pop was a good one too.

My wife's uncle is in the film scene in Toronto and I have been begging him to try and audition for a star trek role for ages now. Honestly he'd be great at it. Doesn't like Sci Fi and isn't interested lol. Does want me to try and do the Amazing race with him though...

ANYWAY - Armin Shimerman (Quark) is in it. It was filmed 3rd in the series, so the filming of it predated his appearance as a Ferengi in "Last Outpost" (which aired first).
He was employed at the time as a recurring character on the TV Show Beauty and Beast. He was a massive Star Trek fan and badgered his agent non stop to get him on the show.
He got cast in the "face in a box" that delivers the marriage announcement. It was uncredited. He's super exicted for it (all set to "beam up") and his agent calls to say there is a scheduling conflict and Beauty and the Beast needs him on the same day.
He basically tells his agent to stuff it, and goes to play the face in the box. His agent flips out. He fires his agent.
Then gets cast in The Last Outpost.
Then 6 years later as Quark.
|
He MADE the Ferengi. There is no more quintessential Ferengi than Quark.
The cast of DS9...some took longer than others to grow into their roles, but once they did...no passengers.
