I don’t know anything about Draisaitl’s personality off ice. We all know what he’s like on ice.

If you got to the end of your career, and your “pal” made $4 million per year more for 16 years (previous 8 years plus next 8), that’s $64 million USD. There is no way that anyone could or would leave that money on the table. That’s the equivalent of an 8 year $8 million contract.

So regardless of draisaitl’s personality, he’d have to be really stupid to settle for below market. I don’t think he’s an idiot and even if he is, he’s got an agent to protect his interests.

There’s not going to be a discount.

Besides that, the hallmark movie of the week income will dry up at some point!

All of that info has come from Oilers media writers hoping it comes to fruition, it absolutely won't. In their projection they had Bouchard taking an 8 year deal for less money than Nurse and Draisaitl coming in at around $12M AAV. It's fn laughable.

Why would a guy voluntarily be underpaid for his entire career to play in Edmonton let alone when he just got engaged to his actress fiancee who will find exactly no work in her field anywhere in that geographical area.
