Video of Nashville's Asst. GM Paul Fenton talking about the top 5 prospects.
-on Jones, "Could be better than Rob Blake". already 6'4, athletic at both ends of the ice. Any team could use him as a building block
-on Barkov, two-way centre, already put up point per game numbers in a pro league. compares him to Kopitar, controls the ice, big/strong already, hard to hold up, perfect fit for Preds at centre
-on MacKinnon, is a prolific, dynamic, speedy, goalscorer. sees nothing but net, goes for it, not gonna give up. compares to Stamkos' personality the way he wants the puck.
- on Drouin, magician, never know where the puck is going to come from, darts in and out, finds the seams, makes plays, and he can score as well. the offense he can bring is incredible
- on Lindholm, similar type of Swede as what we've seen in the past. puck-carrying, smart, cutting type of forward that can pick apart seams and score goals. On top of that he's a fierce competitor

So unless they're intentionally BSing it would appear that our deduction that they won't take another Russian after the Radulov debacle is true. Sounds like Barkov/Lindholm for them unless someone ahead takes Nichushkin and Drouin drops

1. Jones (Colorado)
2. Mackinnon (Florida)
3. Drouin (Tampa)
4. Barkov (Nashville)
5. Nichuschkin (Carolina)
6. Lindholm (Calgary)
7. Nurse (Edmonton)
8. Monahan (Buffalo)

Is what i'm expecting. Absolutely no chance Calgary is moving to #1.

Highest I think we can move up to is #3 and even that is likely out of the question.

The only deal I could see us pulling off to move up is with Tampa Bay for #3, and here's why:

1st Overall: Jones to the Avs is a lock. I'm sure they'll take a long look at Mackinnon, but they'll go with Seth. It would be far too expensive to pull this deal off.

2nd Overall: Florida has just stated that they are not interested in moving down. They want someone who can step right into their team. It'll have to be Mackinnon.

3rd Overall: Tampa management has previously stated their admiration for Nichushkin, who could very well be available later in the top 10. No GM in the league would turn their nose up at recouping an extra asset (say, a late 1st rounder) to move down 3 spots & still pick the guy they want.

Nashville has a stiffy for Barkov, so in my opinion there's no way he drops past #4. I believe he fits the bill for the Flames going forward & if we want him we'll have to pick before the Preds. Mackinnon would be the dream, but I just cannot see it happening after Florida has said they aren't interested in moving the pick. We are stacked at LW for the next 10 years, so I don't have much interest in Drouin (which is probably foolish).

I don't think it makes sense to spend assets to move up unless we're really pushing for Mackinnon or we want to pick Barkov.

In that scenario Drouin drops to at least 5th. What a steal for Carolina if that's the case.

Tampa has a huge presence at all Mooseheads games and really likes Drouin. They are doing major homework on him and i'd be shocked if they didn't take him at 3. I don't think they will move out of that spot. Can you imagine Drouin setting up Stamkos for the next ten years. I think Tampa can.

Let's just hope this is hot air and he's trying to show the fan base that he's doing everything to improve the team. We are too asset poor and can't afford to move up. A good player will be available at 6 like someone else has mentioned.

I agree they take Drouin. Almost every scouting report, article, ect., says that there are 3 ellite prospects, Drouin is always one of them. Even Feaster said at the STH that there are 3 ellite prospects. I just can't see them moving up to #3 and not taking one of the ellite prospects, considering the flames have 0 ellite prospects in the farm system.

Anyone listen to the FAN this morning.

I was leaning towards Lindholm over Monahan, but they had the head scout on from the ISS who was raving about Monahan and how he would be such a great fit for the Flames.

Not sure again. I am excited that we will (hopefully) get one of these guys though.

Hmm... interesting. Wouldn't be opposed to those picks honestly.

Didn't realize that Buffalo has picks #8 and #16. Maybe we can trade #22 and #30 to them for 16 and draft Horvat. That way we come out of the first round with two decent centres that we can hopefully build around.

Maclean: Better team/bigger spotlight would've helped Monahan's ranking plenty. Might be most underrated player in the draft.

More from Maclean - if the pieces fit together - #Flames setting up to take Monohan at 6th overall. He could be the guy
Quote:
Jason Deforest@FAN960Jason3h
Ross Maclean on 6th overall: "Guy I think fits best is Sean Monahan. Eric Staal type of player, that's who I think of watching him." #Flames
Quote:
Andrew Walker@fan960walker3h
Ross Maclean from ISS - Bo Horvat London Knights was the quickest "riser" up rankings this season, especially last couple months.
Quote:
Jason Deforest@FAN960Jason3h
From @rossmaclean of ISS: As far as comparables, Mackinnon projects well as a John Tavares/Jeremy Roenick type.
I'll be choked if we dont take Monahan, gonna be a great player.

Leave Lindholm for the Oilers, the last thing they need is another small Euro player. I bet if we take Monahan though they either draft a D-man or just trade the pick.

Monahan would be awesome though, Eric Staal type player? Yes please.

I go back and forth between Monahan and Lindholm literally every day ... can't really go wrong with any of them.

that is a ... "bold" mock, to say the least. Barkov at 2 over the Halifax kids, Pulock at 5 ahead of Monahan, Lazar at 7 ahead of Lindholm, Nurse at 19, McCoshen at 21, Horvat at 27 ... weird.
