If Ruff gets fired he will be getting paid not to coach by 2 teams. And probably just retire. Not bad.

Not really - Devils actually dominated possession and couldn't get a save.
Sabres are a black hole defensively - mostly because their d-core is very young and not well rounded.
Dahlin: 24; 55.9% xGF, 2.18 xGA/60
Samuelsson: 24; 48.9% xGF, 2.62 xGA/60
Jokiharju: 25; 47.9% xGF, 2.72 xGA/60
Clifton: 29; 47.5% xGF, 2.67 xGA/60
Power: 21; 47.4% xGF, 2.76 xGA/60
Byram: 23; 47.1% xGF, 2.54 xGA/60
Somebody like Andersson who is 28 and fits within the age of Tuch (28) and Thompson (26) to be one of the relied on older veterans on the team is exactly what they need.
It's remarkable how much better Dahlin is than the rest of that d-core. Like to be at 55.9% xGF when the next closest d-man is 48.9% is ridiculous.

They won’t get a good one as long as the owner moonlights as the GM

Yikes that is brutal.
Andersson and Vladar make a lot of sense for them. You can probably just use those stats in trade talks to show them how important an upgrade is for them on the backend.
1st and a top prospect, and maybe a goalie swap for Vladar.

Adams didn't have much experience. Was an assistant coach with the Sabres in 2011, fired 2 years later. Rehired in 2019 as the Senior Vice President of Business Administration. A year later, he was GM.
Most of his trades are meh, but he did get a 1st and a 2nd for Ristolainen for Hagg. Got a 1st and Levi, who could still pan out, for Reinhart. Everything else is just... meh. bodies for bodies, for the most part.

TBH Coleman and Andersson would probably make that team a really strong team in the East and a tough out.

I follow the Sabres pretty closely, and you’re bang on the money with their needs. They’re imbalanced on D, and I expect Samuelsson would be going the other way in any major deal. Scoring is fine, but they need a guy like Coleman to do some of the dirty work in the top 6. The Sabres also have the cap space to add.
So Samuelsson + prospects + picks going out, RD and two-way winger in. Something like this probably works for both teams as a hockey trade:
Samuelsson
Helenius
2025 2nd
Andersson
Coleman
Only problem is it’s unlikely anyone will waive to go to the Sabres. That’s what Adams was alluding to when he talked about how Buffalo isn’t an attractive destinations. He’s probably worked on multiple trades that got nixed because of NTCs. Must be frustrating.

It was a strange hire to begin with. It's not like Ruff is a top coach, he is inconsistent in his coaching career. Make the playoffs, miss the playoffs.

It's funny because Buffalo and Ottawa have the opposite problem IMO.
Ottawa - didn't accumulate enough top end picks before they tried to push too many chips in for deals for Debrincat and Chychrun
Buffalo - waited too long and still haven't made the tough decision to actually move some prospects / future picks to bring in a piece that helps them immediately.

Reminiscent of Chevy in Winnipeg when he wouldn't make any trades.

The problem is once you pay your stars out of ELC how many more years can you pick top 10? I think Ottawa made fine moves going after Debrincat and Chychrun 4-5 years after they started tanking and when guys like Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson had their big money deals. Ottawa’s issue was trading for 2 guys that didn’t want to be there long term.

Before they nuke the roster, they should probably turf the coach.
I also wouldn't want Kevyn Adams tearing it down either.

Too what end?
They have had 7 of em in the last 11 years.
Maybe not a coaching issue?

Well, the players have turned over during that time. I mean they hired Ralph Krueger who was coaching soccer, and Phil Housley.
Now they go out and bring back Ruff for some bizarre reason. It's not like you are hiring a Darryl Sutter here, you got a coach who you fired went away and had mixed results at best and probably is outdated for the league now.
The defensive structure seems to be in shambles, that could also be a player problem as well, but they do have talent on the backend.
You can't fire the owner unfortunately.
