...and, if NFL10 is any indication, it will cost 800pts to buy the mode from the Xbox/PS3 marketplace.
It's not a game mode. It's the play style of gameplay that I mentioned back in June. You have casual, which is pick up and play. Normal, which NHL 09 on default is generally. And hardcore, with no assist passing, slow down turn speeds, more factors on player and puck momentum, ect.

Madden 10 has "Elite Mode" available as downloadable add-on for 800pts. I'm assuming NHL will have something similar.

Ya, but thats for online lobbies to play ranked All Madden games with 10 minute quaters bascially. I highly doubt EA is going to charge you to charge for a play of style that is set by the sliders and game options automatically.

Do you think EASHL will just be in the normal mode or hardcore?

I'm not sure. But it might be hardcore since my community manager in a e-mail recently was talking about how important player skill is and he mentioned passing with it. So I'm assuming precision passing is at least required.
What are these points you guys speak of? PS points?
Playstation and the 360 deal with online money differently. PS3 uses straight up dollars while the 360 uses "points" that you have to purchase (the wii does this as well). In madden there is a level of difficulty only available via online purchase (costs 800 points) ... which is ridiculous. Hockey will not have it.
^^ I LOVE that video of the guy blocking the shot. Great to hear that low shot block rating means the guy will stay standing but as you raise the stat he will drop down. From that point the more you add to the rating the faster he gets down and gets back up.
i have watched a lot of the gameplay videos, but wanted to ask if there were any that shows the post whistle scrums? i don't recall seeing any. but if someone knows of them and could link me to it, it would be much appreciated

According to the video above, Littman says it will take about 20-30 games to get used to the passing. That means if you play the demo (that has a single period) 90 times you should get it down before the game ships. I'm up for a challenge.

I think in one of the earlier gameplay vids there was something. I remember thinking it looked a little frantic and overly aggressive, but that was a while ago. I'd love to look for it, but they have been so awesome at releasing gameplay videos I'd have to look through tons of them.
Does the fact I watched all 15 minutes of video make me a nerd?
It's amazing how far we've come with these games since NHL93. It's not about scoring, we want more realistic shotblocking, sprawling, defensive systems and realism based on player ratings. It's truly astonishing. I never thought I would be watching a briefing for a video game like I was in training for a job or CSIS.
