That is true from a straight logical perspective, but the fall out from Edmonton losing and having to even still consider the Flames would be worth it.

Sure they have 2 games vs SJ, and games against he the kings and Jets. The panic that would set in if they continued the losing streak against the Sharks on Friday would be something to behold. Playing the Jets and Kings before ending the season in SJ would have them in must win territory if the Flames can get up to 93 points on Sunday with a win against the Sharks.

"The Wild could activate star winger Kirill Kaprizov and top matchup center Joel Eriksson Ek for tonight’s game against the Sharks."

Even if they get in by beating a bottom feeder in the last couple days, if they can close within a couple of points of the Oilers and make them sweat and threaten to put playoffs in question at the hands of their "lowly" rival that would be extremely entertaining.

However, if St. Louis is coming off its new coach bump and rainbow dust high then they're the most feasible team to pass over the Oilers due to games remaining.

I'm torn as to who I'd prefer to win tonight.

He is definitely not one of the things fans ever prayed to the ‘hockey gods’ for.

I hate to break it to you, but sports fans tend to be superstitious, and I tend to poke fun at superstitious people.

Its crazy to think the Flames are six points back of *EDIT* OF A DIVISIONAL SPOT in round one...would be 3 if they could have hung on a couple saturdays ago.

With 20M in cap space, rookie goalie, makeshift D, ect. ect.

How are they six back of home ice? Or do you mean the Oilers?

Home ice is PAC2 spot and they're 10 back of the Kings.

I meant divisional spot...my mistake

and potentially knocking out the Oilers, Chirst if the Flames and Canucks were both a LITTLE better this could have been the greatest finish of all time. Might have to settle for a round 1 embarassment.

For a team chaos scenario (Which I will call the McDavid 97):

Flames win their 5 games in regulation and end up with 97 points and 33RW.

Oilers go 2-3 with their wins coming in OT/SO, because it is who they are, that would also put them at 97 points but with 32RW.

Wild Goes 3-1 (loss to the Flames) to end at 97 points, does not matter if they win in regulation because they are currently sitting at 33.

STL winning the game tonight and then finish 1-0-1 end ending up with 98 points because Oilers have the ROW tie breaker.

Oilers end up out of the playoffs.

Agreed. Definitely a successful season all things considered. Lots of positive signs in the big picture.

I'm missing something here. Why is everybody saying the team is eliminated, when they're five points back of Minnesota with four games remaining?
