Yup, the Oilers loss was bad. Also the loss to Vancouver when Flames were up to start the 3rd. I go back to the back to back losses to the Blues as that seemed to give them belief and momentum when they were way out of it prior to playing the Flames.

You cannot really lament the late game collapses without considering the late game comebacks.
The Flames give up quite a few more goals than they score, they (or Minny) will be the only team in the West with a negative goal differential to make the playoffs.
It's to be expected that they would have lost some games late.

Flames have been screwed out of way more points than they've stolen.
I think its been one of the worse years I can remember for that.
To still be making a push for it is rather miraculous.

Never understood the hate Bettman gets. He works for the owners. The only criteria his bosses judge him by is if he increases the value of their assets. And he’s certainly done that. I hate to break it to you, but the next commissioner of the league will be hired and judged on that criteria too.

Tonight is the night. At puck drop for the Flames game the SJ/Min game will be in the 3rd period. Things could start to become more in focus with the results tonight.

I know Minny is the main target, but having STL beat the Oilers tonight to keep them at 93 points would be an interesting turn. Hurts their bid for that home playoff start and really starts to put some pressure on them in the remaining 4 games.

I well remember the end of this season. Flames and Avs both with four games remaining. For the Avalanche to make the playoffs and the Flames to miss, the Flames would have to lose all four of their games and Colorado would have to win all four of theirs.
The Flames, of course, kept up their end of the bargain, going 0-4. But the Avs got the Flames into the playoffs by losing one.

Actually, the 3 losses to Utah rank up there for missed opportunities.

i think you still want to chase STL, they only have 2 games remaining after tonight
If they lose in regulation tonight, their max is only 97 if they beat Seattle and Utah.

Would St. Louis get home ice in round two if they beat Vegas and had more points than Edm? [If they make the playoffs and if they beat LA]

No, 3rd in division is still better than any wildcard in round 2.
point totals only count from the conference final onwards.
So theoretically, if the Wild are WC2 and have more points than the Oilers, they would have home ice in the conference finals.

Not beating dallas when you out shoot them 100-5 didn’t help either.

Getting screwed out of two goals didn't help.

So many games that come up as 'should have won' games, but were losses. Lots of teams have them, however. The Edmonton game is the one that still bugs me though, especially when the Oilers got both the win and walked-off the ice scot-free with their trash-talking, and way more importantly, getting unanswered punches on the captain. I didn't like the response that the Flames had at all that game. Imagine the Flames with 2 more points and the OIlers with 2 less? Or Draisaitl (and a few others) being a bit more banged-up right now because the Flames decided they had enough of their antics.
Either way, the only game that matters this entire season is the game tonight. Once this is over, it is the next game, and the next, until the Flames are either in the playoffs or are eliminated.

Well that's dumb. Edmonton potentially rewarded for mediocrity yet again.

Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek skated again today, and coach John Hynes said the #mnwild are hopeful they return tonight vs. San Jose.

The other thing it might do is cause the Oilers to rush McDavid and Draisaitl back quicker, if they are getting desperate for points. Which would be a good thing
