I'm not sure it's really buying time. I mean all 5 of the presumed suspects are outside the jurisdiction of the London Police, 4 of the 5 are outside of Canada's borders. I mean a week is small potato's compared to the amount of time it would take to navigate an involuntary apprehension.

This thread has been a trip. I'm just waiting for the victim's father to be blamed for providing the X chromosome that made it all possible.

I assume they learned from the Kylington statement and subsequent questions, and tried to preemptively answer them. I agree that they may wish they could go back and change the statement, of course assuming Dube is actually one of those involved and this isn’t just “coincidence”.
Still, If Dube is seeing Mental Health professionals, there may be nothing factually incorrect about the statement.

There would be a civil suit if he was rich, whether or not he was famous. The subsequent criminal trial could have gone forward without using inadmissible evidence from the civil case, and he would most probably still have been convicted.
Bottom line: the prosecutor screwed up big-time. People walk out of court free when that happens, and most of them are neither rich nor famous.

Or they gave the individuals until Feb 5 to turn themselves in and the Feb 5 date will be a summary of what has happened. It doesn’t seem unusual

They're hoping the public spotlight on the press conference will be diluted somewhat by a Coyote's arena announcement.

Why, are the Coyotes building an arena in London?
At this point, that wouldn't surprise me.

Would the Flames have even known Dube was being investigated or talking to police? He would have to tell them, or get contacted by the police.
He probably told them he needed to step away and get help and that's what they came out with.
Now its obvious with the information out now and the players who have stepped away what is happening.
I don't think the Flames deserve much blame here unless they knew about it.

I presume all 5 players will turn themselves in to face the consequences, but wouldn't it be wild if a player went on the lam?
"Alex Formington, former Team Canada Junior hockey player missing since 2024 is believed to be hiding in a remote area in Borneo..."

Are you referring the the player who was invited to the room because he was told there was pizza, didn't know what was going on in the bedroom but still stayed for 10 minutes, and then left?
It still seems unbelievably weird to me to stay in this environment for 10 minutes.
