2) If you look at the contending that are likely looking at Lindholm, Hanifin, and Tane, their rosters are chock full of NTC/NMCs. Hard to imagine a Coyle, Carlo, or Suter waiving to go a non-playoff Canadian team.

So where are these contracts that the Flames need to make space for? I’m struggling to find a likely candidate.

What if WSH offers you a haul for Lindholm, but only if you take Kuznetsov off their hands for example?
I hope the Flames take bad contracts back this year if it helps them get a much higher return.

It's ok to admit what he did well and he was the best defencemen on the team in those 2 regards.
The return is underwhelming and he'll be a perfect fit for Vancouver, but I'll reserve judgement overall until we see what Conroy's big picture is with the cap space.

Is Z a better skater than Hanifin?

No one said he wasn’t a good skater. I only said Hanifin is better and I stand by that (Weegar ain’t bad either). And I said he hasn’t played well since the trade request (Toronto game) and I couldn't remember his last big hit. I assume he’s had some this year but it was sure a while ago. He also had a nice wrister. But didn’t score this year like before.

Given the reports of a market for him that's not much of a return

Sounds like Conroy has a handle on things.

For sure, but retaining on Zadorov IMO didn't make much sense. I think the fair question is why trade now given the return.
Conroy doesn't need cap space to retain on those other guys, he needs cap space to take on some contracts. We'll see what he has in mind for that.

Hanifin is such a smooth skater it’s less noticeable, sort of like Hamilton was. Plus he doesn’t try to go end to end all the time. But IMO Hanifin was a superior skater.

My guess is to get a guy that doesn't want to be here, that put down his teammates in interviews, the hell out of the dressing room. The cap space has value too.

The only good thing about this trade is I won’t have to hear Seravalli pronouncing his name ZADDorov anymore.

Not sure I want to do a sell off if this is all Conroy can get. Feels super underwhelming on both of his trades. I would have sat on Z for more. There was no rush. Yikes.

Z is better at rushing with the puck, Hanifin is better in his overall movement and positioning within the game, particularly on defence.

Was initially underwhelmed, but then I thought screw it - this team strikes homeruns in the 4th round all the time, so why not flip that 3rd for two 4th's sometime and draft us some superstars. Let's gooooooo

Could be more moves coming especially if we retain capspace to do it.

As far as his play goes, over the last couple weeks whereas every single other player on the Flames except maybe Ruzicka has looked better than early on, Zadorov has looked worse.

Yeah Hanifin has the much better edges. He turns a lot more swiftly and has a much faster first stride. Z has a better top speed once he hits his stride. Hanifin is also better at skating backwards, and maintaining a better gap.
