If you take it out of your house and normalize not drinking, eventually you'll reach a point where you could take it or leave it if you were offered one, but it's no longer a crutch. And you'll miss it less than you thought you would.
Any one who is a grown professional with family would greatly benefit from dropping it from their lifestyle. Especially if you care about being optimal at anything you do or having longevity to spend with people you care about.
At least perry acknowledges the issue and is taking action. Big step for sure.

Have you even tried hugs and not drugs?

I don't think I could disagree. Although I rarely drink at all anymore, ive ways been a happy drunk.

It’s more so I usually don’t jive with people who are religious enough not to drink. It’s not really the drinking.

Any guesses who he eventually signs with at the deadline? I’m going Edmonton or Las Vegas. Both those teams have no scruples. I could also see Buffalo doing it considering they need that push. Shocked Treliving didn’t pick him in the offseason. Totally his type of guy.

Why are you grouping Vegas in with Edmonton and saying they have no scruples. Edmonton in the POS human destination for the league, his apology today is as good as a clean slate for the Oilers organization.
Just in.... Oilers checking in on Slava Voynov to see if he is in shape and sending Paul Coffey on a mission to see if former Ravens RB Ray Rice can skate.....

I was going to jump on the wagon that Perry’s apology isn’t sincere but who am I to do that to someone. Hope he meant it. Everyone makes mistakes.

Lol.. Could also be interpreted as poster points out another of many cautionary tales for why drinking into your 30s to the extent that this guy did is probably unwise, then discusses alternative lifestyle choices.
And then some posters take exception by painting the ones advocating good lifestyle choices as the obnoxious health bro type because that talk conflicts with their lifestyle. And the classic more concealed approach of "quality of health you employ doesn't matter as long as you're a good person" remark.
(Some the same posters that talk about their drinking in other OT threads)
You're one step behind.
Pretty normal CP progression of posters reacting to people that have a different perspective and turning it into groups with conflicting stances stereotyping one another.
Personally, I'll never stop or feel bad talking about good lifestyle choices. No one has to agree if it's not them. That's cool. You can only lead a horse to water I suppose. But its worth saying. It doesn't mean someone is bad or wrong in exercising their right to live how they want and choosing a different path for their own reasons. That's entirely valid. I wouldn't judge someone for coping through binge drinking or simply enjoying craft beer as a past time. Been in both of those place before.
People who think they're being flexed on and reacting are taking it the wrong way I think. But alas, that's par for CP.

You are not wrong in your choices and they are good/ great choices. I do not know you or your age, it is a revelation to anyone who has grown older that a healthy lifestyle is very very beneficial. However I have so many friends and relatives who are not here now. Hedge your bets for sure my friend, but life has its own course.
Cheers to you and I enjoy you as a poster.

Yup. Some of the no drinking people are the same as pushy vegans and it ruins the vibe for the chill people who don’t drink.

I still don't get it. He isn't the first player to have drug or alcohol problems, and certainly not the first one to seek mental help.
Still doesn't explain the turfing.

It seems like there is more to the story and the secrecy is probably to protect another individual who doesn't want the attention. Which would be totally fair.

I’ve had my share of drugs. Weed, shrooms, LSD, DMT. None of them have ever made me feel as crappy the next day as even a light drunkenness worth of alcohol has. Minus the DMT, I’d rather have a night with any of the above personally.
