Between all their picks, their average height is probably around 6"4 or so, which is huge.

Four players named Yegor were drafted, but the Flames win by getting Yegor Yegorov.

It's too bad that Poile left to be GM of Washington back in the 80s.
Would have been nice to have him as the heir apparent to Fletcher instead of Riseborough.

When do we find out whether we won the draft?

14. Calgary Flames (B)
Key picks: Samuel Honzek (RW), Etienne Morin (D), Aydar Suniev (LW)
It won’t take long for Honzek to make an impact for the Flames thanks to his great work ethic. He was more of a safe pick, but one worth taking under new GM Craig Conroy. Morin is one of the better two-way defensemen, and one many expected to go on Day 1, while Suniev had a monster year in the BCHL.

Incredible analysis, lol. How long do we think they spent coming up with letter grades for each team, 30 seconds?

Their first pick was a guy I thought the Flames might take.
56: Beau Akey, D, Barrie Colts (OHL)
Age: 18
Hand: Right
Height: Six-foot
Weight: 174 pounds
Hometown: Waterloo, Ont.
2022-23 stats: 11 goals, 36 assists in 66 games; 2 goals, 3 assists in 13 playoff games.
But now he's clearly no good.

Tell Macklin to hold out and tell teams he will only play for the Flames.

I don't know how you one would give Arizona a strong grade. I can't believe they took on the Russian risk, TWICE, but neither time to grab Michkov.
And then why they did not move down and get an extra pick.
I don't mind the swings, I think both players the took in the 1st round could be ready good, but it seems like they mis-managed things.

The other problem with those ratings is they don't normalize at all for quality of picks or quantity. Which I get, but it makes it basically a ranking of who had more top of the draft picks, not who picked well.
