Yeah, Vegas has a healthy seasons ticket base and that’s locals, not the hotel/casino comp ticket that they accumulate.
It’s a funny situation. With their injuries they may well be looking at being out, getting a decent draft pick and bouncing back next year with all hands on deck. Eichel fits in that situation IF they can negotiate a condition for his recovery time. They maybe would be able to defer the pick if he doesn’t play this year for example.
Or they might figure on sticking around a la Tampa, then getting key players like Stone back for the POs. Which maybe also works with Eichel if he can come back for the POs as well.
On the third hand, maybe they need a Sean Monahan today if Karlsson is out.

That’s not what I’m saying - I’m saying that the longer this goes on, the less Buffalo is going to get.
So make the deal now.

Vegas won't have trouble selling tickets...1/3 or more of the fans are cheering for the other team...especially with travel opening up

A smart GM would have made this trade between the end of last regular season and the start of free agency.
But whatever Adams is doing does not seem to be smart.

No kidding - had they done it then, the premium would’ve been justified by having Eichel for most if not all of this season.

That's not even the same thing. Kucherov had played effectively until October, and they announced just before January that he would be likely be missing the season. Not being a doctor or having the medical records I can't say with certainly that the injury was much less severe than what Eichel is dealing with, but I think that's a pretty reasonable account of the situation. Everything around the Kucherov injury was planned for him to be able to be ready to go for the first game of the playoffs. I would not be surprised if there were not some alternative scenarios in the back ground that could have seen him back earlier had the Lightning been in danger of not being in the playoffs. It was a team and team mates plus a coaching and training staff that he had 100% familiarity with. Not to mention those 56 games in a lot of years would have been closer to 45 in more normal time lines.
Eichel will be closer to two calendar years since playing, and will be attempting to join a team and training staff that he has not previously worked with. It will be going against normal expectations to think he'll jump in and be just like Kucherov was.
Really from Buffalo's perspective you may be just as well to let an arbitrator rule as to who decides what procedure needs to take place in order for the contract to continue being paid. If they get their way, and get him fixed, it might bring more teams into the mix to get the value up for an offseason deal. If they don't and have to let Eichel's camp get their procedure than they are forced to decide if they accept the recovery risk and let it play out and try to sell for more value in the summer, or if they sell the risk now at a discount. I'm not researched on this topic to know that the team acquiring Eichel is automatically blessing the procedure his camp prefers, but that is what I would guess. So really the Sabres are forced to sell to the current market of teams who would permit this procedure thinking they have to, or they do so knowing they their hands were tied. I don't think Calgary or Vegas, or any other team interested is suddenly going to discount their offer once a defined course of action is known.

I don’t think anyone can force another person to accept a surgery they don’t want.
And don’t anybody make a vaccine counter argument.

From a league perspective I think they would love for this trade to get done to take the news cycle focus on that rather than the Blackhawks.
I hope this makes it even tougher for Vegas and allows the Flames to swoop in and close the deal

Could you ask him if he prefers to be called Brad, Bradley, Bradimus, Braddington, Bradster, B-Rad, B?

he says "I said will it get done and used the shrug emoji" he's defensive. I figured the insiders would be - after hyping this for the past week, Friday and Saturday and then dead radio silence yesterday.
He specifies the uncertainty with Stone - will he play or will he not affects Vegas ability to do anything. The money is a big issue. And with Buffalo they actually don't have Eichel on LTIR because they need his salary to be above the floor.
Only mention of Calgary is "and Calgary's in there"
then finally "you've got Jack Eichel and his camp saying his situation health-wise is getting worse. We need a resolution very very very soon was the quote that I received"
He also mentions something interesting - that there's questions about Eichel's attitude
Him and the other host get into a hypothetical discussion about Eichel just getting the surgery he wants and having his contract voided. Previously guys would write this off as an unserious option, have heard Friedman and NRD all shoot this down as silly on their podcasts this past month. But now they seem to be talking about it like a serious option. Seravalli's co-host thinks Eichel would get a new 50 million dollar contract on the open market.
|
Seravelli is a perfect example of why there are so many nonsense "rumours" these day. These guys know that they are putting opinions out there and wording them in a way that people will fill in narratives. Then they can go back and claim that they didn't say anything definite if you taken them verbatim.
They all do this of course, ever since clicks and followers became a thing.
I've been hearing a lot of chatter that talks are heating up. A trade could be completed as early as tomorrow. Now if I say this, just being some internet rando, it carries no weight of course. If someone from the media says this, it instantly become a rumour even if the substance is exactly the same. Then when it doesn't materialize, I can point out that I never said anything was imminent, just that it could happen. I get all the clicks, with none of the risk.

So Brad confirmed that rumours are factual. Not these rumours, but rumours in general can be factual.

From the incomparable ‘Yes, Minister’:
Quote:
Bernard Woolley:
[Discussing possible reasons for the Prime Minister's early retirement] Minister, I've heard something quite different.
James Hacker:
What?
Bernard Woolley:
That there is £1 million worth of diamonds from South Africa in a Downing Street safe, but of course it's only a rumour.
James Hacker:
Is that true?
Bernard Woolley:
Oh, yes.
James Hacker:
So, there ARE all those diamonds in Downing Street!
Bernard Woolley:
Are there?
James Hacker:
You just said there were.
Bernard Woolley:
No, I didn't.
James Hacker:
Yes, you did! You said you'd heard this rumour, I said is it true, you said yes!
Bernard Woolley:
I said yes, it was true that it was a rumour.
James Hacker:
You said you heard it was true!
Bernard Woolley:
No, I said it was true that I heard it!
Annie Hacker:
I'm sorry to cut into this important discussion, but do you believe it?
James Hacker:
I believe I heard it. Oh, about the diamonds. No.
Annie Hacker:
Is it impossible?
James Hacker:
No, but it's never been officially denied. First rule in politics: never believe anything until it's officially denied.

One would hope two rings and three trips to the conference finals would be enough to dissuade Sutter from Admiral Kirk-ing his own career a second time.
