The goal isn’t to build a championship team. It’s to turn a team that didn’t make the playoffs into one that does.

I detest that so much. Striving for the former will do a better job of achieving the latter.

Professional hockey managers should know this.

True, I mean more….. contractually… that this will be an unmitigated disaster if it happens. Like potential to be worst contract in the NHL.

If it's 6x5, the Bruins can have him.

Frankly, this free agent class stinks like 2016 and I suspect that better players might be had through trade when other teams want to free up some space. Hell, Chicago just added a reigning Vezina winner and a two-time cup champ for the husk of Brent Seabrook and a guy whose name I just learned today and can't remember.
Sorry Blake, you'll have to secure the finances of your family elsewhere!

One short season...Markstrom is an elite goalie

Coleman is American and the Flames aren't very good. Plus the Flames long term outlook is questionable at best. I don't see any way he would pick Calgary unless it's a massive overpay which is obviously not a good idea.

In that Friedman blog, he has 1 name without any team: Nick Ritchie. He just says there’s lots of interest.
If the Flames don’t sign any big UFAs, I will be thrilled!

Coleman has won it all, at this point in his career he may be inclined to think more about financial stability. I would assume he goes to the highest bidder tbh.
