Don't want any big contracts tomorrow. Just depth signings, 4th line, 3rd pair D, backup goalie. The big moves need to come by trade

The prices being asked just didn’t make sense for us…

There was an article in the Athletic today about Coleman; it talked about him building a house in Texas and that signing there is a definite possibility, but at the end of the day he thinks he’s earned a big payday and that’s what he’ll be looking for. He has been underpaid the past three years (earning “only” $1.8M per year), and he talks about his next contract basically setting up his two young daughters:
Quote:
Coleman, 29, is due to become a highly sought-after unrestricted free agent on Wednesday at noon. He’s drawn significant interest from teams, but all he knows is that he’s almost assuredly leaving Tampa Bay.
...
Coleman has played on a bargain contract ($1.8 million) the past three seasons, and this is a very important deal for him, one that can set up his family for life. Watching linemates Barclay Goodrow (signing for six years with Rangers) and Yanni Gourde (picked by Seattle) leave “made it feel more real” that the end is near.
...
Coleman is having a custom home built in his hometown of Plano, Texas, and it should be finished by the end of the year. Could a reunion with the Stars be a possibility?
“We love our hometown and there are some things that are appealing about Dallas,” Coleman said. “The family aspect and things like that. At the same time, this is a unique time for my family in a sense that, I make good money, and I’m aware it’s great money in the grand scheme of life. But this is definitely our opportunity to be rewarded for the hard work we put in. I think first and foremost what makes the most sense for setting up my kids. Dallas is somewhere we’d definitely entertain, they’re in consideration.”

Nothing worse than a middle six player that wants a big payday. Flames will have to be the highest bidder to get his services and that's just not going to end well for the Flames.

I'd rather Ritchie at 3 x $3 than Coleman at the rumored price and term.
I know Coleman is the better player, but age and term are too risky.

Treliving terrifies me on the eve of UFA day.
When he does nothing he signs stiffs like Nordstrom and Simon.
When he does something he signs stiffs like Brouwer and Neal and Raymond
He literally has one successful UFA day, that time he signed Frolik and only Frolik.

He signed Markstrom and Tanev in addition to Nordstrom and Simon so I wouldn’t say that’s doing nothing lol

6 million is ridiculous for Coleman, especially if he wants term. Someone will regret giving him a deal anything close to that.

I feel like we are going to try and justify what we give Coleman tomorrow on here and it's going to hurt comparing them to our initial assessments in this thread.
Winner's curse.
Stay away from 95% of UFAs. Identify undervalued players and work from there. You can't build a championship team in free agency - you can only add finishing touches.
