No. Only players with NMCs required protection. A NTC is different.

The plus was kind of the key to that statement - Brouwer would be the piece to make cap work. Plus his contract is 2 years shorter and $500k cheaper for the Knights.
I question why Smith was available for free to Vegas to start with so who knows what NHL GMs are thinking.

Still early to see what the other side deals are, but definitely some head-scratcher picks from VGK. We'll see I guess...

Scary bad roster, apart from the goaltending. I envy their goaltending.

Seems to be because they valued their young defensemen more highly than a winger coming off a disappointing year and thus went with the 1-8 protection. Most GMs and teams seem to value top 4 defensemen over 2nd line scoring wingers

Still a better looking roster than the Canucks

Is the OP accurate or has anyone actually been selected officially yet. If not, does that start at 6 or are the award first?

Making a statement like this before you even know what other talent they have gotten to chose the players they have chosen is premature.
Do you honestly feel that you could have done a better job?
|
I don't know if I would have done a better job but I would have taken a different approach. I would have chosen to lock up a couple more of the top players on the unprotected list instead of taking draft picks and guys like Berube. NYI, in particular, had a lot of attractive players to take.

That doesn't explain why you send Marchessault and Smith to Las Vegas though.
Only why they protected 4-4-1 to start with.
Edit: Mackenzie just tweeted that Marchessault had to be included to get Vegas to take Smith. Seems crazy that they needed to "throw in" a 30 goal scorer t get rid of that contract. I'll take that contract as a Flames fan.

So far just MAF and JF Berube as the goalies?
Must have taken Pickard from COL since they left Raanta and Grubauer alone.

Nothing has been announced officially, but Vegas had to get their picks into the League by 8:00am MT this morning.
All the teams have been informed as to which player has been chosen from their team, and the GMs have been calling those selected players to let them know.
Once that started happening, various media members started getting information from their various sources (likely the players' agents and/or the teams' GMs).

Be interesting to see if there's more to it and FLA gets anything back. Doesn't make a ton of sense to me as is. Speculation I've heard is that FLA wanted to cut salary and used Marchessault to entice VGK to take Smith. If true then maybe Smith and Marchessault don't really have much value.
Something is weird with that rumour

They had him listed on the Vegas roster on TSN (That's Hockey) just a few minutes ago.

Yup - you'd have to think that somebody would be interested in Smith at his contract. Not a bad enough deal to have to entice somebody to take him IMO.
Also makes me wonder if you could pry Demers out of Florida on the cheap too due to budget constraints. Would look good on our second pairing next to Brodie.
