MacKinnon should be captain of this team. An absolute beast for the entire tournament.

true.
but at least the coach separated Gaudreau and Eichel. Could have just kept rolling the lines like the Russians do.

Nugent-Hopkins is looking like a 1C. I've never seen him play this strong.

It's possible but he wouldn't be on the first line getting this much ice time. I suspect they want to get good TV numbers and engaging the Ontario market is the easiest way to do that.

Yup. It's not like the McDavid line was bad - they had chances. But the hot line tonight was McKinnon, Hopkins and Johnny. Most coaches with all those options play the hot hand.

Do you play devils advocate because you believe it promotes discussion, or is it a troll attempt?

Yeah, it was an awful attempt at a burn. In fairness, it was still better than zyzz's... words.

Nugent-Hopkins is pretty soft but out of the Oilers rebuild 2010-2015 he's always the one guy I liked, much more than Hall or Eberle. Very smart play and actually has some passion to his game.

I agree that line should have been riden hard after they got together.

Not sure why everyone needed this to show them Mclellan is a poop coach. When Sanjo made the SCF the year he left that was enough for me.

In all seriousness, if someone is in Toronto tonight can they check in on McLellan and make sure he made it back to his hotel room.
I'm a little worried he might not find his way back with his face planted so firmly between McDavid and Matthews' jocks.

McDavid with 21:04 of ice time tonight. Matthews with 20:57. Only Rielly and Ghost Bear had more.
Larkin with 5:33. He didn't set foot on the ice after the 4th Russian goal.

Agree. I think Hall, Eberle, and especially Yakupov are one-dimensional players who focus more on being flashy than playing a reliable game. Nugent-Hopkins has always struck me as a pretty good two-way centre, even if his offensive totals don't match some of his fellow high draft picks.

PP minutes
McDavid 7:12
Matthews 6:37
Eichel 6:06
Gaudreau 3:31
MacKinnon 3:59
Nuge 1:29
I expect JG was pissed that he missed that open net. He buries that at least 9 times in 10
