Great game, not worth it to bitch and whine about who's on the ice and their usage, other than possibly Eichel. Once Johnny-Nugent Hopkins-McKinnon caught fire, they were out there every other shift.

Can't wait for the test vs Sweden.
They weren't out there every other shift. Saad's line got some time. But the complaint is more about shift length and powerplay time. The most effective powerplay all night was the Mackinnon unit, but they kept starting the McDavid unit, including on the 5 on 3.

Considering the TV angle only showed him from the back, you must have some form of X-ray sight...

Which would make up for your lack of insight.

That wasn't coaching for the win. McLellan is more concerned with playing McDavid out of his slump than winning the game.

What terrible coaching, it is no wonder SJ couldn't win with him.
I wouldn't say he's terrible. More like a middling coach. Just seemed to me he's really forcing the whole Matthews and McDavid thing. I suppose it's a showcase tournament but sheesh it's not like the rest of the line up is chopped liver.

As peeved as I am that Gaudreau didn't get more time, I'm even more disappointed for MacKinnon.

That kid was an absolute dynamo tonight, and should have been on the ice for every clutch play all game long. He was absolutely determined to be the difference maker this game.

But Todd-Mac just had to play the golden children over and over.

I didn't watch, but did Gaudreau seriously not get out on a 5 on 3 with 4 minutes left...? The guy who had more points last year than everyone else on the team...? Actually had more points than all but 4 guys in the entire tournament...?

Sounded like an exciting game, wish I could have snuck out of work.

I don't know why anyone is surprised about the showcasing of McDavid and Matthews. The entire reason behind the U23 team was to showcase McDavid and Matthews.

Need to play Connor out of this offensive slump he's stuck in, before the season starts.

If Matthews was drafted by anyone else he wouldn't even be on the team

And the best at slick cross crease passing plays and finding the open man, which is what you want on a 5 on 3. Instead they out out a unit that fed the point for slap shots that missed the net or got blocked.

That was the biggest missed opportunity in the game.

He didn't. The first unit(which haven't done anything on PP) was on in pretty much its entirety. It's just mind boggling.

Agreed. Hopkins actually looks like a player I'd want on my team right now.
