Sekara deserves to get paid by Katz, at least 6.5 million a year, he is young (29) and has at least 4 solid seasons left as a very good number 3 on a good team.

TSN's panel is so much better than Sportsnet right now that it's actually kind of embarrassing.

No one is going to offer sheet those guys at a rate you just don't immediately match. If someone goes crazy and you can get some serious picks then you just take them.

Totally agree, so happy to watch James Duthie host a hockey event again. He is the best in the business.

I guess we'll see.
If Giordano's contract screws things up too much, and a couple of bottom 6 forwards get a million more per season than we had budgeted, it starts the squeeze for the re-signings next year.

Not to mention Franson is pretty underrated, being an offensive defenseman on a terrible Toronto team for so long. But the guy is one of only eleven defensemen to score over 1 point per 60 minutes of play since he got into the league (and that includes defensemen who have spend time at forward like Burns and Byfuglien). This isn't a do-everything guy, but he is an elite level producer and 5.5 x 4 for him would be a good deal.

Michael Frolik was close to an extension with #NHLJets last summer, but will instead hit the open market in minutes. Look for a $5M AAV.

But the Oilers are not a very good team. At all... In fact I'd argue they're a very bad team. Sekera would be their best d-man and it isn't even close.

Not really...you have over 12 million off the books at this time next year in Hudler, Jones and Hiller....plus any increase in the cap.
Also, I can really see Wideman dealt at some point either through the season or more likely at the draft next year which adds another 5 million to the coffers.
Calgary is positioned very well for cap space moving forward depending on what they do today.

The only guys I'd like to see Treliving and Co go after are Williams, Cole, and to a lesser degree (if the price is right), St. Louis and Downie (I can't believe I'm saying that). This year is a sad FA bunch - especially when Matt Beleskey with 32 points is the apple of teams' eye.
