BU had a surprising season. This was supposed to be a rebuild year.
3 of their top 4 forwards are expected to go pro (Eichel top 2 draft pick, Rodrigues UFA, Oksanen UFA).
Danny O'Regan (the other top forward) and Matt Grzelcyk (#1 defenceman) are NHL draft picks that have another year of NCAA eligibility, but may forgo that to start their pro careers.
Their #1 goalie is expected to be going pro.
If those guys leave the program it will probably take 2 years at least before BU is this competitive again.

With that in mind would Hickey benefit from turning pro? He's had an excellent season – could he carry on that development path in the AHL?

Hickey is only 18, pretty sure he isn't AHL eligible.

I'd leave him to finish his junior year. Defencemen take longer to develop so I wouldn't rush him.

He wasn't drafted out of the CHL, so he could go to the AHL at any time.

Yes he is. All drafted players are AHL eligible unless they are drafted out of the CHL.

He wasn't drafted out of the CHL so that rule doesn't apply. He can turn pro whenever the Flames and he decide to.

As a Dman I would prefer if he spent at least a season in college as the number one guy before turning pro. He's gonna get way more minutes as a Terrier over a Heat. Consider how much of a logjam we have right now where we constantly scratch guys like Sieloff and Kulak just to get other guys time. 'Sides, i'd rather wait another year or two before his first ELC kicks in.

Jon Gillies was on the Fan this evening interviewed by Rob Kerr.
Very impressed with this kid. Very well spoken, has a great perspective and seems to be really be focused on team first and wins.
Would not comment at all on whether he would forego senior year and sign with Flames.
Obviously biased but said Gilmour is one of the best skaters in NCAA. He said Jankowski was most improved player in college and has a very good shot.
Look forward to him being a Flame.

May not mean much but the Flames charter jet flew to Boston today, presumably for the Frozen Four: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CNK821
Can't see anyone getting the "Gaudreau" treatment like last year but maybe looking to make an impression? Maybe Gillies signs after the Tournament ends?

The Flames have 4 prospects in the tourney but it doesn't begin until next weekend. Providence is also Burke's Alma Mater, so I can see him going to watch them. There is also the talk of the Flames chasing O'Connor from BU

Hindsight offered Gillies some perspective after he backstopped the Friars to their fourth Frozen Four in school history with 52 combined saves in 119:49 of intense playoff hockey in victories over Miami-Ohio (7-5) and Denver (4-1) in the semifinals and final of the NCAA East Regional at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence.
“I just knew that if we were going to win this game, I thought he had to be our best player,’’ said Providence coach Nate Leaman after the victory in the East final.
It mattered little to Leaman that his goaltender had given up three shaky third-period goals as Miami rallied from a 6-2 deficit after pulling its goaltender and pumping in three goals with an extra skater.
“I think the elite goaltenders know how to win a game 5-4 and how to win a game 2-1,’’ said Leaman, whose team faces Nebraska-Omaha at 5 p.m. Thursday at TD Garden in the first national semifinal. “I think that’s what separates great goalies from average goalies.
“To me, what matters most is, does a goalie have the mental toughness to win a 2-1 game and does he have the mental toughness to win a 5-4 game, because those are very different kinds of games. And Jonny does. He knows how to win games in many different ways.
“I’ve seen in the three years he’s been with us, he doesn’t get rattled when goals go in and he wasn’t rattled at all in that game. He’s got an uncanny ability to reset and refocus and a lot of that is because he’s been in big situations before.’’
Gillies, a third-round draft pick (75th overall) of the Calgary Flames in the 2012 NHL Draft, said his unflappable mind-set is the byproduct of two seasons with the USHL’s Indiana Ice. He posted a 31-11-9 record, a 2.77 GAA, a .915 save percentage, and 3 shutouts in his first season with them, 2011-12, and still holds franchise records for career wins (46), games (78), and shutouts (6), and single-season save percentage (.915).
“I learned at a very young age that winning is the only thing that matters,’’ said Gillies, who went 22-13-2 this season, with a 2.01 GAA, .929 save percentage, and 4 shutouts. “We can win 1-nothing or 9-8 — we’re moving on, and that’s all that matters. I was just as excited after we finished out the game on Saturday night [vs. Miami] as I was on Sunday [vs. Denver].
“That’s the way it’s always been. As a goalie, your job is to give your team a chance to win and to let in less goals than your team scores, so the other day we were able to do that for both games and we’re moving on.’’

Flames rookie camp invitee Noel Acciari named defensive forward of the year in Hockey East, along with some decent offensive stats. I wonder how interested the Flames are and what the chances of him signing here would be?

I heard the Flames were interested last season. Burke is apparently a fan.
Unfortunately the Flames depth at young C probably means he will look elsewhere, if opportunity is a major factor in his decision.
Mark Divver says the Bruins are interested

Can we trade him for Janko? Kidding, but right now he seems a more ready combination of offence & defence
