UMass-Lowell wins 2-1 to meet Boston College tomorrow at 5 p.m. Frozen Four berth on line.” UFA Christian Folin plays on.
All this talk about finishing school etc has reinforced my theory that people have no idea what universities are really here for. Quite simply, there is a reason you never take a class called 'how to find a job' when you're in college. The point is not to use the experience to 'get a job' - that's how it's sold.
University is about being in an environment where you discover that thing that gets you so excited, so inspired and engaged, that it consumes your life. It exists to provide you with the ideal place to discover who you are.
After three years in college, John Gaudreau is internationally known as 'Johnny Hockey'. Whether or not he ever finishes his communications degree, I think he got what he was looking for out of his education.

Is he going to leave Boston College and head for Calgary?
“There’s a good chance, yeah, definitely,” Gaudreau said. “But I still need to talk with my parents. My mom’s not real keen on the whole idea. She wants me to stay. My dad’s the complete opposite on this. But it’s a good decision to have.”
I'd be beyond stunned if he returned for his senior year. Going back wouldn't help his development at all, and I think he knows that. He's ready to move on.
I haven't read every page so this may have been said but the logic his mom used about possibly taking someones job can easily be flipped.
If he stays in college, there is one less scholarship and one less spot on the team available for a kid who may need that scholarship and that education to have a better life. I would be far more concerned about taking that educational opportunity from someone than displacing someone who's already making an NHL player's salary.
There is no doubt the kid can play and there is no doubt that he can still finish his degree while playing pro. I don't see this as a tough decision at all.

I don't understand any college player who doesn't sign in this position. You risk taking an injury the following year, playing hockey, getting out of bed, blowing snow.... A bird in the hand, sign the contract. No-brainer to me. Sure you can also have the same injury after you've signed, but at that point you already have the contract... way too much at stake in not signing imo.
Some more high prase from Denver University coach Jim Montgomery who compares Gaudreau to Pavel Datsyuk:
Quote:
“I have always said this, John Gaudreau is the kind of player anyone should pay money to come and see. He’s worth the price of a ticket,” said Montgomery. “He’s like (Red Wings star) Pavel Datsyuk. He’s so creative that he does things that you’ve never seen before, and it’s from game-to-game, and that’s what’s exciting about paying money to go watch Johnny Gaudreau play. I know coaching Johnny, his anticipation of when to transition from defense to offense is going to happen. He doesn’t end up on breakaways like he does by a fluke. His timing is impeccable.
Quote:
“I’ve been trying to show our players that when you realize a turnover has happened, he’s already two strides ahead of you and behind you. So, we’ve got to make sure we keep Johnny Gaudreau in front of us.”
Pretty close, but I think a skittle is 1.5cm diameter, so:
3883.35km from Carneys Point to Calgary = 258,890,000 skittles assuming they are edge-to-edge. Someone correct me if my math is off.
Assuming 60 skittles in a bag, then we need 4,314,833 bags.
$28.35 for 36 bags of skittles on Amazon, means ~$0.79/bag, so we're looking at $3,397,931?
Rookie max is $925,000 + bonuses (which he'll hit of course, c'mon) which brings us to a $3,225,000 cap hit, I believe.
Toss up, but I think he'll take the skittles unless he can swing a bulk discount elsewhere.
My Saturday nights, ladies and gentlemen.
I feel bad in arguing, but I believe that a Skittle is more like a half centimetre, while a Starburst is more like a centimetre and a half. This would obviously impact on all of your later numbers, including the purchased Skittles being more like ten million dollars.
I'm sure the difference in training facilities between Boston College and the Calgary Flames aren't even in the same stratosphere. One would think an NHL club would have the latest and greatest technology and equipment.
Not to forget the availability of the Flames training and medical staff, along with development coaches and nutritionists who can tune his diet, his workout schedule, and set a weight gain goal/plan.
Include another year of hockey development into the mix too.
Not much of an advantage if you look at what he'd be missing out on for another year.
I doubt the difference is much if anything IF he has access to the BC football and basketball training facilities and personal.
The BC football and basketball programs probably bring in close to and potentially more revenue than the Calgary Flames. This is big time college sports, and they recruit so most big time, big conference teams have unbelievable facilities and trainers etc.

You might be right. I just googled it, but 1.5cm seems big if you think about it. Probably closer to 1 cm than .5cm though, in which case CMPunk was pretty close. Anyone have skittle access and some callipers?
Double or triple my numbers and it's a no-brainer. He'd take the skittles. Get er done, Burke!

I very much doubt the BC Hockey team has access to the Football and Basketball training facilities.
A case could be made maybe for gym and equipment (doubtful), but I highly doubt personnel would be a part of the picture.
