Given Big Ern's scoring prowess this year, I think he could get 10-15 goals next year playing on a line with Gaudreau

I'm sure the difference in training facilities between Boston College and the Calgary Flames aren't even in the same stratosphere. One would think an NHL club would have the latest and greatest technology and equipment.
Not to forget the availability of the Flames training and medical staff, along with development coaches and nutritionists who can tune his diet, his workout schedule, and set a weight gain goal/plan.
Include another year of hockey development into the mix too.
Not much of an advantage if you look at what he'd be missing out on for another year.

Not that I don't agree with you, or that I think Gaudreau should stay in College for another year (I don't think he should), but there are two advantages staying in college from the reasoning you provided.
1) Less games - more time to concentrate on the physique. You simply are not able to increase much muscle during the season (many players actually lose muscle mass during a season). Playing about half the number of games does help in that regard.
2) Getting muscle BEFORE entering the NHL would be the key to the logic coming from the Gaudreau camp.
I do think he is better off at this point in joining the NHL. He is simply too skilled not to. I look at this year as his 'polishing' year - where he got to polish up on his crazy elite moves and passes because he is head and shoulders above just about everyone in the NCAA. Another year will just get him stagnant.
My money says he signs.

Maybe he has heard about Rich Hesketh and wants one more year of Skittles and turkey and bread. Ha. Ha.

I'm sure a school like BC has world class equipment, and great trainers. The advantage there would be allot more work out and practice time.
the advantage the NHL/AHL would give is quality of competition, and hockey specific trainers/coaches. As well as tougher competition and schedule.

Just remember, if you draft a player you also draft his mom.
Or is that marriage?
Either way...

I would bet he already has a Rich Hesketh program going on. Nothing says they can't take knowledge back with them from NHL camps.

Didn't see this article here today, sorry if it was posted, but another article on Johnny Gaudreau today in the Boston Globe:
http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/20...O0K/story.html
Quote:
“I don’t want to make either of them upset,’’ he said recently, focusing on a father leaning toward the pros, his mother on a fun senior year at BC, and a degree (communications) in hand. “They said in the end it’s up to me, but at the same time I don’t want them to be upset. I’ll sit down before the end of the year and definitely figure out what I want to do.’’
|
Quote:
“Johnny is a little more cerebral. He sees things more and utilizes his other players more than, say, Atkinson and Gerbe and Gionta,’’ said York. “He is more of a chess player on the ice. Gionta, Gerbe, Atkinson all were little fire hydrants, where Johnny is just, well, there’s hardly anything to him at all. But he’s very elusive.
“His ability to create something out of nothing is incredible. He will see you over here, almost like a great point guard, like a Larry Bird or Magic [Johnson]. It surprises people. If it was a basketball [his passes] would hit you on the head.’’

Is anyone else secretly hoping that Boston loses tomorrow 8-7 with Gaudreau scoring 7 just so he can sign and we can move on from the uncertainty?

I was hoping for a JG 3G 3A game, Arnold assisting on all JGs goals and scoring 3 himself, but a 7 goal game works too.

The muscle before entering would be a bonus, but the plateau of hockey development wouldn't benefit that muscle. If he's able to see how to train properly and to get a set hockey schedule, the sooner the better.
I'm not so sure a smaller schedule is beneficial. The body works very well on rhythm. Games every second day would be a benefit more than a hindrance. Especially paired with the proper support staff.
Look at Ben Hanowski. The kid was timid, slow, and a little on the large side. A summer in Calgary did wonders for him before his first full pro season.
Imagine what that could do for Johnny Hockey. I agree, my money says he signs too.

I hope Johnny tears Denver a new ###hole tomorrow, then BC loses in OT on Sunday.
He signs Monday, and plays in TO on Tues.

I'm openly hoping his team loses tomorrow so he can sign with the Flames ASAP. He has nothing left to prove in College hockey. He's proven all he can, time to move to the pro game.

Gaudreau would be able to play for the Heat in the playoffs as he is a college player, right?

Depends on when his contract starts. If it doesn't start until the 14/15 season, my understanding is he can play for the Heat on a ATO contract.
