I still don't see how that justifies the attitude.

I thought his point was that penalties in OT were not a good way to end games and that refs should put the whistles away.

Myself, I don't care too much. I enjoy the women's game for what it is. But I likewise don't see why you are getting upset at a women vs. boys comparison when the women play the boys. They can be compared because they have traditionally played in direct competition to each other.

penalties need to be called if they negate scoring chances. thus the first 2 penalties were really weak in a game of this magnitude....

I'm not upset.

I'm still trying to figure out what you are trying to say though.

Yes, they do play against men sometimes. Yes, they lose sometimes.

Is that the only point you are trying to make?

Probably because most people don't watch womens hockey regularly and were surprised at how slow the game seemed on TV. My comment on the midget boys comparison was to help explain why.

99% of Canadians myself included are very proud of the Canadian women and what they accomplished. Also a bit of schadenfreude at the Americans loss as they made it easy to dislike them.

A funny, and only partially germane story:

I used to work at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. There is a pretty high American student population at TWU, and the students have been organising an annual pickup game every year between Canadian women and US men. In the six years that I worked there, the series was dead even at 3 wins a piece.

So happy for the Canadian women's hockey team. What an awesome hockey game. Those two teams are so evenly matched, it really is a one of the better rivalries in sport.

Couldn't be happier for those ladies.

Appreciate the rationale, but I don't think it is that at all. It's a pre-set attitude and mindset that is incredibly frustrating for fans of the sport who are taken out of the competitiveness and glory with comments like "our double A boys midget quality team beat their double A boys midget quality team".

And just because men and women play against each other in tune up games because we haven't grown the women's division of the sport adequately doesn't mean that these attitudes and comments are qualified.

Lol, reactions are already hitting you tube.

An American fan, NSFW for swearing. Might also wanna check your speakers.

This will be the only one I post, just lovin it right now, and I can admit that. If it makes me a bad person then so be it.

NSFW!

Edit: Ahhh I see someone else did it for me already, haha!

That man seems remarkably over-critical.
